Just wondering what are the average number of visits for your blog? Mine is new, non-professional looking, parenting/craft/blather type blog. I'm wondering what is a good number of visits is?

This one is more a resource blog so not personal. Initially I thought it sounded quite good, but then I have no idea what others get.

What you want is not high numbers but high interaction, and also increasing numbers, however slowly. Seeing big leaps in reader numbers doesn't mean much, as many people have said that they only get big hits on contentious posts, and steadily increasing numbers of regular visitors is really what you want if your goal is to create a good following.

I want my blog to be a platform for a book (hopefully a series of books) so, while my numbers don't matter so much, seeing them grow steadily does...and that's what I'm seeing so I'm happy :)

In 7 weeks of regular blogging, have gone from fewer than 100 hits per week, to over 400 per week btw. I'm very happy with that!

That's great Flamingo. I agree about steady increase, this one has a steady increase and a good following now. Plus opportunities from the US for something career-related, that sort of thing. Which for some is better than the idea of adverts.

Good luck with the book, very interesting!

Oh, good thread. I've found it difficult to find an answer to this question. Many bloggers are secretive about it.

I get about 100 - 200 hits a day depending on what I have blogged about. Some posts get several hundred hits on one day, some only about 80 hits but pick up hits over time if they are often googled topics (such as the How to Twitter or measles outbreak in France post).

My biggest hit was a post about babybliss big hair that I took down when it went from having about 500 hits over a period of several weeks to 500 a day when there was an article in several newspapers. My photos were on page on of google photo search and it made mw a bit nervous of overexposure (and completely outing myself).

I was interested to see how many hits I had this month as I only did a couple of posts as on holiday. I was surprised to see that I had about 2500 despite not posting and hardly linking on twitter.

A good proportion of my hits comes from rrs feeds which I find is more important than random google hits.

Ah, the rss feed thing. I know I have had this explained to me but I still don't quite get it. Is there any way to maximise them? Or is it just a case of hoping people sign up to your feed, and then if they do, the hits will come?

I have no idea, DM. They just all appeared as of by magic. Smile

DM - RSS feeds are ppl who like your blog so much that they want to know every time you post without having to go and look at it every day, so there's nothing you can do to increase numbers except for posting good content regularly.

I get between 2,000 and 3,000 page views a day. I don't know if that's good or not.

I may have got a bit over excited when I went past half a million page hits the other day! I'm a small fry history blogger really and didn't expect ANYONE to read my blog when I first started writing it a couple of years ago. :)

Err.. I think that's good!

DM, you need to make it as easy for people to sign up as poss, make sure your rss feed link is in your sidebar somewhere. People reading blogs are v lazy - I know there are blogs that I have liked and meant to sign up to, but it hasn't been obvious, so have left and then forgotten who they are.

MarshaBrady - depends what kind of advertising you want. 9000 a day would get you big advertising in the world of parenting blogs. That is phenomenal.

I'm in my 7th week and I've had 6,400 so far. Anywhere between 200 and 500 a day, definitely raised up when I got to be BritMums blogger of the week a few weeks back.
I try not to get too hung up on stat numbers , I would prefer a handful of 'regulars' who I know enjoy reading my blog than 100 people who are just clicking on by on their way through a link list x
