Feel Like I Don't Know My Toddler Anymore

Hi All,

I already know this is probably a silly post, but I'm struggling at the moment and I just want to know if this is normal.

My oldest son is 2 and a half, and over the last 6 weeks has undergone a shift in his behaviour/personality. Previously I'd describe him as shy, a little fearful/anxious, happy, quiet, helpful, and calm. Now he's defiant, irritable, confident, super energetic, loud - he seems like a totally different kid. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I just feel like I don't know this new personality at all, and to be honest I miss the old one a little. Is it normal for toddlers to have sudden behaviour/personality switches like this? He's had phases before of pushing boundaries, tantrums etc of course, but nothing this drastic. Also, no big transitions recently other than potty training which has been pretty uneventful and has gone well for the most part.

Thank you!
Aimee

I was thinking of creating a similar post myself today. My previously quiet and helpful boy is suddenly shouting, screaming and asserting himself (loudly!!). He is talking a lot more too which I suppose is what I always wanted! (he was previously quite shy and his speech was a bit behind and not often used!!).

I hope/assume this is a phase and testing boundaries alongside emerging confidence. I really hope the outcome is a calm helpful confident child!! Sorry no help at all but you are definitely not alone!!
