Is it true that to encourage talking u should encourage choices like offering a choice of 2 thing? I've tried this and he doesn't answer and just takes what he wants

Has he had his HV check yet? Is he ahead or on track with everything else? Understanding ok? I'd suggest doing MCHAT which is a quick screen for potential ASD and consider whether his understanding is on track and whether he communicates his needs effectively in other ways eg gestures and pointing and whether he does other things in the social areas of development eg imaginative play. Pointing is a big one. Was he pointing by 18MO? Be reassured that the evidence is that most kids DO catch up but be vigilant and involve the right services early even if just for reassurance. My LG didn't say much til about 20MO and then it's just exploded and now at nearly 2 she's pretty much on track so when it happens it'll happen quick. I found a website called //www.teachmetotalk.com really useful for advice on encouraging speech and at the very least it stopped me driving us both mad trying like mad things that just don't work. Just keep talking and singing etc to him and get specialist opinions and chances are in a few months you'll wish you could shut him up Grin
