I have decided that if I was a sleb I WOULD name my DCs wild and wacky names too

I love lots of different types of names. Some classic, some outrageously modern.

I have named my 2 DCs sensible, classic names because thats what suits our lifestyle.
It will mean that they dont stand out like a sore thumb amongst their peers or get teased at school (for their names anyway!). It will mean that they will not be refused a job interview because of a 'wacky' name on a CV.

However, IF I was a rich and famous celeb I would name my Dcs cool, outrageous, wild and wacky names because that is what would suit my celeb lifestyle. It would mean that they would fit in with their peers and not stand out like a sore thumb amongst all the other celebs kids at the fancy schools. Plus it would suit them when they looked for work presenting their own tv show or releasing a chart single!

Indiana is too wacky for my lifestyle, but most likely wouldnt be wacky enough if i was a sleb... oh well

well of course the names we choose reflect our own lives, aspirations. and that is why lots of people on mn have such violent reactions against names which have connotations for them.

so as you say 2.4, if you are rich and famous you don't have to worry about your children 'fitting in' with other people's lifestyles so you can use whichever names you actually like.

i wouldn't go so far as to say that choosing sensible classic names means that anyone is just trying to fit in, but sometimes it is a bit "oh. unusual name. throw rocks" on this topic.
