Middle name for Hero

Expecting a baby girl and we’ve decided on first name Hero. Our other children have unusual but not unheard of names with more traditional middle names but struggling to find a name that flows nicely with Hero. Our first mn pick was Emilia but gone off it a little now, any suggestions?
Our last name is rare but not ‘weird’ or able to be turned into a joke, and begins with an S.
thanks 😊

Hero is a lovely name. (The actual Shakespearean character was a bit meh IMO but the name is great). I’ve not heard of it as a boy’s name I don’t think.
Hero Elizabeth
Hero Rebecca
Hero Catherine
Hero Madeleine

Having looked up the meaning of Madeline we realised that it means ‘of the high tower’ which corresponds to the Hero & Leander mythology that involves her living in a tower. Too cheesy? I do love the name Madeline in its own right too. Had some wonderful suggestions from here.

I like Madeline..I agree with a pp an a at the end sounds more musical, hence my immediate Lucia feeling I guess..Is there a name Madeleina?

Not sure why people are shocked it would be a girl's name...I've only heard it used in Shakespeare but it's definitely a girl's name...not a name I've ever thought of using but I love it!
Personally I'd go with something three syllables ending in 'a' like Sophia, Christina, Louisa etc. Just seems to roll off the tongue better.

Hero's beautiful! Reminds me of Shakespeare, so lovely. Middle names could be:

Hero Anastasia
Hero Elizabeth
Hero Sylvia
Hero Hyacinth
Hero Jasmine
Hero Marie
Hero Isabella

I just asked my own Hero, who is now a teenager, and she is utterly baffled by this thread.

No, nobody has ever teased her. No, nobody sings the song. Yes, she's pleased it's her name. Yes, she is happy with her name. No, she doesn't think she will ever use her middle name.

She's also not come across much in person rudeness about it. I once had a checkout operator say something rude, but that's it.

I’m so glad your daughter loves her name, none of the negative comments here have put me off because its a gorgeous name and it feels right for this baby, but really refreshing to hear that its not caused her any problems ❤️

I got bullied for my name, A LOT!! Until probably around 13, then it stopped.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I wonder approximately how old you are. I think it was much more common to be bullied for an unusual name in the 90s and before, which is why it is so often an anxiety for people posting on this board who are thinking of their own experiences in school.

Well said. I am also a teacher and my experience is exactly the same as yours. I have mentioned this on this board before but I once taught a Vietnamese boy called Phuc in a multicultural London school and no-one turned a hair.

I'm a teacher and have heard kids being bullied with racist, sexist, homophobic slurs and bullied through attacks on the way they look or their clothes or their parents or their parents' car. The list is endless. But I have never once heard anyone bullied because of their name!

Bullies pick victims because that person is isolated in some way or because they will react in a certain way. They will then find a easy target in that person and use that. Kids are not bullied because of their qualities - their qualities are used to bully them.

There is a serious lack of understanding of bullying on this thread! If a bully wants to pick on someone they will find a way! We shouldn't be encouraging people to conform to avoid bullying - we should be helping children NOT to be the bully!

Not to be mean ... but ... naming children names like these are very risky. What if she grows up to be the opposite of this, I feel you are setting your poor child up

Stay with the Classical Greek vibe, Hero Alexandra (or Alexandria)

Hero is a classic girl's name. Calling a boy Hero would be like calling a boy Sue.

I like Hero but for a boy. I've recently come across Halo and love this for a girl?
Middle name I would go with a classic long name. Elizabeth, Felicity, Victoria, Charlotte, Catherine, Juliet.

Hero is a fantastic name. I would choose a middle name beginning with a consonant and with at least three syllables.

Hero Juliet (if you want to lean in to the Shakespeare theme)
Hero Beatrice (likewise)
Hero Natasha
Hero Margaret
Hero Penelope

Hero is not my cup of tea, but neither is Artemis (which gets a lot of MN love), Clementine, Agatha, Mabel, Ella-May, Wren, Luna and Aurora, which all seem very popular presently. I'm not sure Hero is really 'worse' than any of these... it's a question of personal taste.

There's not much that sounds right with Hero to be honest (because it's hideous especially for a girl) but I'd focus on giving her a nice middle name if you're that set on such an awful first name so she can go by her middle name as soon as she's old enough.

This sorry OP
