Boys names - not too popular and welsh influence

We’re expecting a boy in the summer and stuck for names.
DH is welsh and we are after a boys name that isn’t very common but has a welsh/Gaelic link. I can’t seem to find any that I like, or that I think are “too popular” - or welsh names that are hard to pronounce or spell!!!
All our family and friends have had boys recently and lovely names we liked like Barney, Theo, Isaac, Reuben, Dylan, Evan are all off the table!

Whereabouts are you based @rebeldeca ?
rebeldeca · 11/05/2022 20:13
Thanks for all suggestions!
Owen, Gareth, Arthur and Tristan are all lovely but sadly off the table due to family with those names!
Huw is DH’s middle name.
Do we think that Idris has too many connotations of Idris Elba?
Angharad78 · 11/05/2022 20:14
Morgan, Mabon or Taliesin (Tal)?
DaleTrimont · 11/05/2022 20:16
Are you in Wales or England ? Some of the suggestions will be mispronounced in England so that is something to think about. (Eg Iolo, Rhodri, Huw )
Footloose78 · 11/05/2022 20:17
Macsen? Pronounced max-en
Shmithecat2 · 11/05/2022 20:18

My godson is Gwion, what a about that?
KirstenBlest · 11/05/2022 20:20
Huw is DH’s middle name - i like it
Do we think that Idris has too many connotations of Idris Elba?
Yes, and until recently was hardly used. I have heard Idriss quite a few times recently (muti-ethnic area) too
If you are in a Welsh-speaking part of Wales, or in a part of the UK where Welsh isn't spoken, will alter my suggestiions as a lot of names are not nice with an anglicised pronunciation.
Magicmagician · 11/05/2022 20:21
Macsen? Agree with pp suggestions of Aled, Owen or Elis
sageandbasil · 11/05/2022 20:22

I love Gryf!
Gryf is not a welsh name, Gruff/Griff is. Gryf is an adjective.
Westfacing · 11/05/2022 20:22
Many years ago I knew a Welsh chap called Tudor.
