Possible Lupus?

Wondering if anyone is able to help. I've tested positive for dsdna antibodies which seems to be associated with lupus. I also have Raynauds. My GP has referred me to an rheumatologist which is in a month and I'm going crazy with worry. What should I expect from my appointment and has anyone been in a similar position?

A dsdna positive is likely lupus esp with raynauds.

I suggest having a look at the lupus uk website. It's a very straightforward website in plain English, with a list of diagnostic criteria, a section on making the most of your appointments which will be handy for you, and various topics of the month which cover different aspects.

1 word of advice if you are struggling at the moment; lupus inflammation (seen or unseen) is, in 50% of lupus patients, triggered / worsened by UV light. Whack on factor 50 and staynout of the sun, see if that offers any relief.

Good luck with your appt, and feel free to do me if you need some more help/info/or a whinge. X

Try not to worry, this is a good thing and if you’v e been feeling unwell for a bit, you’re on the way to a diagnosis and getting treated.

At your appointment they will ask you lots and lots of detailed questions about your general health and past medical history. They will then go through the Lupus checklist - (Lupus UK is another very informative site
and details this). They will also be on the look out for other connective tissue disease symptoms if you don’t quite fit the Lupus criteria.

They normally check you over too, I was asked to change into a gown and was examined and then a whole host of blood tests!

It was all pretty painless and for me was good to get a diagnosis. I hope that it all goes well!

The Hibbs Lupus Trust would be a good place to start. Family run charity as one of them had it and they have helpful resources and support
