I've had 2 scans at 8 and 11 weeks and 2 scans at 15 and 16 weeks and at my 20 week scan they found a 10mm abnormal lump on the back of my babys head one woman said it looked like something inside but then another tell me there was nothing inside it and everything else with baby is absolutely perfect? That's all I was told and ushered out and told all about this rare condition encephalocele and what comes along with it by one woman and the other tells us it could be anything? We have a fetal MRI next Tuesday and I've googled lots but nothing good comes up? Has anyone heard of this please and what happened? Thank you

Sorry you've been given potentially worrying news OP. You might find it helpful to get in touch with the charity Shine - they support people affected by neural tube defects, including encephalocele, and run a phone helpline. Hope you get reassuring news soon. //www.shinecharity.org.uk

I have only just seen your post & realise today was your MRI day. How did it go? When will you get the results from that? Please do get in touch if you want to talk. I have cared for several families facing this type of concern. Sending love

Hi justme1323,

We're sorry to hear you've been left rather in the dark by the doctors - we're not medical experts so we'd always advice seeking real life advice (or perhaps a 2nd opinion in your case)

We hope we've given your thread a bump so that some of our users can offer you some helpful advice and support.

All the best
