Sertraline - going from 50mg to 100mg - positive stories only please

I have been on sertraline for 5 weeks, I spoke to the doctor yesterday and she advised going up to 75mg and perhaps 100mg if I don't feel any "better" after that.

I am curious, if you are on sertraline, which dose worked for you?
I know it works differently for everyone but trying to get some encouragement that there is a possibility it might help at a higher dose.

Thank you❤

Thanks for starting this thread! I've been on 100mg since the start of December for my anxiety. While it has definitely helped, I do still feel anxious. I asked my doctor if I could increase my dose and she was reluctant - she said the anxiety won't go away until I treat the root cause and suggested I try the NHS online CBT therapy...that was a few weeks ago and I still want to up my dose.

I think I'll push for it again!

I went up over a period of a year from 50 to 150mg over 5 years ago now. My mental health is the best it's ever been, 150mg is perfect for me and I may never reduce or come off it. No side effects long term like feeling "out of it" or emotionless, which some people get. Good luck with your mental health journey!

@madeindevon2 I always wake up early hours of the morning and struggle to sleep feel wired for the first few weeks and I clench my teeth when I do sleep which has resulted in my front tooth moving boohoo that's my only complaints, they do stop eventually, otherwise really good and I eouls advise anyone to stop suffering and get on them!

I started on 50mg too, felt ill for a week then it settled. Currently on 200mg and it's given me my life back. No sickness felt either with each increase.

Only thing is i needed to keep my brand the same. It was a cheapish brand but it couldn’t be changed. I noticed i kept having a change of brand, so i would be sick and down for a few days whilst they kicked, then fine, then 4 weeks later it started all over again.

I love it. I was on this dose for years. Certainly helped me through very bad periods!
Now on a lower dose combined with another a/d and this seems to work well

I've been on 50mg for nearly 2 years. Marvellous stuff and I don't want to come off it. It very quickly reduced the physical symptoms of anxiety and also stops the night waking worrying, you know, the kind that literally lifts you out of sleep and whirls the worry round and round your head. Instead now when something troublesome happens I can still sleep through it and my dreams often tackle it instead. I also don't over ruminate. I made an error at work the other day. Nothing major. Previously I would have fretted for days or weeks. I did some minor fretting for that day then was over it. Love the stuff.

Side effects, sometime struggle to get to orgasm. Way round that is to let the orgasm happen the moment I think it will rather than attempt to prolong the pleasure and risk falling off the wave 😁

I tried setraline a few years ago. My main issue was health anxiety. The first couple of days i really noticed a difference. Then i started bleeding, which i hadn't done for years. This set my health anxiety right up. Dr advised me to stop setraline immediately. I am too scared to try another tablet incase the bleeding returns.

I dont know anyone else who had this side effect.

can I ask a few questions about taking Sertraline?
What are the most common side effects?
Do you get more sleepy generally?
Does it help with anger issues?
What are the guidelines about having alcohol?
Thanks in advance

@Belle82 my increase meant I stopped crying and obsessing over suicide.

I’m on 100mg. Started on 50mg and then went up to 100mg fairly early on I think. It definitely helped and I didn’t get any additional side effects from increasing it.

@Notimeforaname It's impossible to tell whether that was right for your husband without having full knowledge of his medical history, current conditions, what he was going through at the time, along with a hefty chunk of medical and pharmacological knowledge. While it's not normal or typical there adequate reasons why it might have been deemed utterly necessary. Given it was also signed off and dispensed by a Pharmacist I wouldn't automatically assume it was wrong. The sleeping pills were likely to combat the expected disturbed sleep from starting in that dose.

Weaned himself of the antidepressants and the sleeping tablets*

I am just wondering if anyone has ever started on 150mg?
That's what doctor did with my partner a couple years ago.
He was given 150mg straight off the bat having never taken antidepressants before and was told to take it alongside a sleeping tablet from the first day, even though he didn't have sleep issues.
It turned him into a different person for a few weeks he was abusing the sleeping tablets too...and he ended up weaning himself off them as the doctor wouldn't reply to him.

I'm just wondering if any of that was normal because I hear people saying it helped them so much but never hear of anyone starting on such a high dose and with sleeping pills.
It's a time we'd like to forget but partner sometimes will bring it up and say he doesn't understand if that was normal or not.

Thank you so much to you all.
I have gone up to 75mg, initial high for the first few days now I'm hitting the side effects, nausea and massive tiredness, but I will try to push past them like I did last time.

My 13 year old is on 200mg - it's been life saving. I took 50mg and it was good. No side effects for my child aside from yawning (still) and diarrhoea initially.

They take at least 12 weeks to fully kick in so I would wait before increasing as you may end up on higher dose than you need.
