Broke my trust

I'm really annoyed. I can't go into too much detail as i don't want to identify myself.

I work on a busy hospital ward. I have a friend who also works there. I looked at the rota and saw she was down to work a 12 hour shift, doing a job that wasn't particularly pleasant. This was an extra shift that she could cancel if she wanted.

As she's my friend, I messaged her and said 'just letting you know you're down to work in 'X' area tomorrow, for the whole shift.... just incase you change your mind and want to cancel!

She replied saying how unfair she felt it was, but she would do it anyway.

Today, a manager pulled me into the office and told me off for texting my friend this. I don't think they liked it as I suggested she cancel if she wasn't happy.

I felt annoyed, not at being told off so much, but how did they know what I had texted my friend? They practically k ew word for word, and said they had seen the message.

I messaged my friend saying what had happened, and I said I was a bit disappointed she had shown the message to management.

She is denying showing it to anyone.

But how would they know?
Feel let down.

She is allowed to cancel so how she found out is irrelevant. She told your boss. She isn't your friend.

But why would she tell your manager when it's her who benefits from having this information ?

Thanks, that's what I thought.

she's probably mentioned it to someone in passing and it's got round with a bit of Chinese whispers.

It's pretty crap to be cancelling shifts last minute just you've got an undesirable job to do.

To have canceled she would have to explain how she knew if she wasn't there or hadn't seen it. Very inappropriate of you.

If it's an extra shift & she didn't want to do what she was scheduled for it's her right to cancel the extra shift, they shouldn't schedule people on extra shifts onto shit shifts & just hope they don't find out before turning up to work.

it's management to blame, not the OP.

@Shiningstarr no you were being a good friend. Your 'friend' must have used your text to explain why she wasn't coming in.

the answer to management should be not to shaft the staff that are offering additional shifts.

You don't know that your friend showed them. Someone may have been looking over your friend's shoulder and seen the message.
