Where are you getting heated throws from?

Can anyone recommend. Thinking of an Xmas present for the kids and husband but not sure if we’d want them sooner than Xmas.

A really stupid question Im sure but Im overflowing with blankets and throws, theres no way of making a heated throw out of one you already have is there?

B + M bargains. slumberland I think.

Great for wrapping onver legs whilst watching TV on a chilly day. They use v little electricity, two can sit under ours. Far cheaper than heating a room upto a toasty temp!

I highly recommend the Dreamland throws as well, I have several around my house which the dog and I fight over, I've also got the deluxe Faux fur one which is extremely warm but heavy and when you wash it to get it to back to somewhere near the original condition you have to brush it.

Cost wise their information stated it costs around 1p to run (but this was before the electricity price increases) I haven't seen any difference on my smart meter when using it, I have a chronic condition and heat really helps so I often have them on, I would buy before Christmas if you can OP

Yeah selling fast in argos. I see they are electric. Are they safe if you spill drinks often?

I got mine from Lakeland and it is safe around liquids - you can detach the wire and plug and put it in the washing machine. I took mine out with me during lockdown to restaurants when you had to sit outdoors but it was still really cold outside.

I use it all the time in Autumn - Spring when working from home, together with my Turtle Doves fingerless gloves, to stay warm without needing to put the heating on during the day.

I'm planning to buy the Lakeland fur one this week with my 20% off code.

We bought one for MIL a couple of years ago, her house didn't have central heating. It was from Amazon, Cosi Home I think. She loved it, it was very cheap to run and she could cosy up in it in front of the TV. It's great that they can go in the washing machine as well. I think it was around the 50 quid mark but they'll have gone up since then.

Much cheaper running costs than having to heat a room, although I guess you get that cold "shock" when you have to go to the loo or make tea 😬

I've just had a look and they seem to cost between £50 and £100.
I completely understand that people are concerned about the insane gas and electricity price hikes.
However, I do think that it's possible for some families to spend more on heated throws etc than they actually need to and putting the heating on for half an hour plus wearing layers and snuggling under wool blankets might work out cheaper?
I got a new electric blanket for my bed in the spring when it was half price in preparation for this winter, but it should last me for many years. My children have a warm bath and then hop straight into bed so are warm. We almost never put the heating on upstairs.
Downstairs, if we're inactive and cold then we wear layers/bring a duvet down to the sofa and/or snuggle under pure wool blankets (which are older than me!) - they're so warm.

Just wanted to encourage people not to spend more than they can afford or at least be realistic that if you're buying a heated throw/oodie for multiple members of the family, that might not cost much less than actually putting the heating on a bit.

Or perhaps you got out of bed the wrong side? FWIIW putting what I want to but into Google is something I do a lot - it does all the price comparison for me and I can easily view products and options. To be honest it's you who comes across as the snappy unfriendly cow. Suggesting a way that someone can "shop" and browse in comfort is not snappy or unfriendly.

I end up putting the heating on as o don't like breathing cold air. How do you get round this with s heater throw?

I got one from argos a couple of years ago and it's still going strong. I wfh and use it in the winter instead of putting the heating on. It is also good for camping evenings (if you have electric hook up).

We're using our summer duvets (4.5 tog) and hot water bottles this winter rather than an electric blanket.

My sister has one which she loves but...when Storm Eunice hit earlier this year she was without electricity for two days. She has an electric oven and an electric hob and, of course, her central heating went off. And, of course, the electric blanket/throw didn't work either.

We, luckily, have a gas hob so were able to keep hot water bottles topped up by boiling pans of water and with the summer duvets over us downstairs, we were fine. Then we put the summer weight duvets on top of our normal duvets for sleeping with the hot water bottles, as usual, in our beds.

The National Grid is saying that early December is going to be critical for energy supply and we may see power cuts. We recently had to buy in electricity at 5000% from Belgium to keep supplies going. So I'm trying to plan ways to keep warm, fed and safe without relying on electricity just in case the National Grid are right.

I have the heavier velvet one from Argos, think it's Dreamland? A cheaper alternative, to buy, is an electric blanket, I used to put one over my chair to sit on before electric throws were a thing, I don't know if they are more expensive to run though.
I getting my mum one but I'm going to the finer velvet one because she's tiny and frail, I think a heavy one or fur one would be uncomfortable for her.

I have a few, the amazon one (cosi-home I believe), lakeland one and an Aldi one, the Aldi one is the best of the lot- a lot less cumbersome and lighter weight, was also the cheapest I believe as it was reduced, I missed the Aldi electric wearable one they did but that looked ace for people with limited mobility, it was like an electric dressing gown!
