Because there are possibly two hundred and eighty five million better things I could be doing with my time. And uh I have a life?!!?? In fact I'm pretty sure lots of people don't even iron the duvet cover (the bit that you actually bloody see! )DH and I got in to a semi serious fight over it last night. He was positively horrified when he saw me putting on a *scream UNironed fitted sheet on the bed. I had spent ages ironing the rest of the bedding (duvet and pillow covers) and two kids' bedding so this royally pissed me off. So, tell me I'm not being unreasonable All you normal folks with your heads screwed on correctly.

I don't iron any of my bedding. The fitted sheet pull tight enough that no creases are evident and the duvet and pillow cases drop out really quickly. Not worth the time or effort.

@RoseMartha

I dont iron fitted sheets. I usually iron the duvet cover but only the side that shows

What do you do if it's a reversible patter?

Sheets are far more comfortable after they've been ironed.

I can honestly say I've never got into a bed with unironed sheets and thought "Oh dear, that's uncomfortable." Fitted sheets in particular stretch so that there are no wrinkles anyway.

I do... And it's pretty much the only thing I iron 😂 Freshly washed and ironed bedding is the dream.

I hate ironing but like clothes to be ironed so I have someone do it for me once a week. Bed sheets and pyjamas and my lounging about clothes don't get ironed though. My ex's mum used to iron underwear and tea towels 🙈

@DappledThings. That video's great, thanks for posting it - I don't iron, but folding does help fit sheets into limited drawer space. Talking of which, @AngelinaFibres, is rolling your bedlinen a Marie Kondo thing? You must have really deep drawers, or are they stacked in rolls on a shelf?

I once ironed a duvet cover, with the duvet in it, whilst it was on the bed, just before my judgy-arse MIL turned up to stay.

Worked though. She never stayed again 👍🏻

They feel so lovely and smooth

I have never ironed a sheet in my life. As far as I know, neither did my Mother, although she did iron my Dad's handkerchiefs.

Ironing sheets is the sort of batshit thing housewives did in the 50s to fill the endless hours of housework nothingness
I have recently become a ‘housewife‘ after finishing work at Christmas to care for our disabled (but school age) children. (It’s easier for one of us to be available for meetings/appointments/reviews etc rather than having to take time off work each week for this kind of thing. But on days there isn’t anything like that to go to, I sit wondering what housewives used to do. It’s Ironing sheets. No way I’m wasting my time on that!
My dear grandmother, always worked full time, all the way through her life but always ironed all her bedding, including when she finally got fitted sheets. When I used to visit and offer to do some chores for her, I’d wish I never asked if she asked me to iron the sheets, something I never do for myself, but was so important to her. I can’t believe she found the time tbh.

@Nomoresmoresthensnores

I don't get along with the type of people who iron everything. Our disconnect is too great.
Yes they look tidy and their houses neat but it all smacks of control and insecurity and limited horizons. Sorry it does.
I'm pretty sure this is a joke post. If not, then please seek help. It's never too late.

I iron nearly everything and yet the rest of my house is generally mid-level untidy and the bathroom definitely doesn't get cleaned as often as it should. Toys only get properly tidied up about once a fortnight, kitchen is mostly a bombsite.

If I could be arsed the only thing I would ever iron in the world would be bedding

When I’m rich I’ll employ someone to wash, Iron and make my bedding every week. I'll accept the MN hate for this

The only bedding I've ever ironed is my silk pillowcase, and that nearly pushed me to the brink.

Tell him if it bothers him so much, he can remove and iron it himself, and while you're there, delegate all ironing to him as he has such strong feelings about it.

Those who say they never iron, or rarely iron, that's fine of course, your choice; but please stop saying that those of us who do iron are unreasonable. I don't see why watching TV while you reduce your crumpled sheets (line dried) to a smooth pile of loveliness is so ridiculous.

Well, each to his own, of course. But once you've ironed those sheets they just presumably stay in the cupboard where you can't see them, and after that you put them on the bed where they get crumpled the moment someone gets into bed. You could just as easily fold them up unironed and put them in the cupboard with precisely the same end result in terms of comfort.

As for having something to do while you're watching TV, you could just as easily do some sort of craft activity; at least the end result will be something useful or, even, beautiful which will not then get shoved in a cupboard and then messed up.

And think of what you're saving in electricity costs if you don't iron - to say nothing of the benefit to the planet.

Am I right in assuming that you've been together for some time if you have children? And this is the first time your DH has become aware that you don't iron the sheets? That simply proves how utterly pointless it is.

I very very carefully hang bedding on the line and when I bring it in I put the bottom sheet straight back on the bed, usually helps if it’s not bone dry (but not wet!) and it stretches out and irons itself. I rarely iron the duvet cover, but I do like the pillowcases ironed.

I have been known to do this for the bottom sheet, iron it on the bed, only for my mum, she’d be appalled I do it this way, but she’s still ironing my dads underwear and socks!!!!

Clothes are dealt with in a similar way and go straight on hangers and into the wardrobe and I iron them as I wear them but I’ve time in the morning to do this, saves my poor elbows. In a spare bedroom I have one of those hanging rails on wheels and it’s got lots of hangers on and I often put clothes there to air a bit before putting in the wardrobe if a bit damp.
