AIBU?

Will Johnson be gone before Christmas or after?

Sarahlou63 · 07/12/2021 22:38

I'm thinking the 1922 committee grandees will run out of patience fairly soon. So will Johnson stand aside to be a better parent before Christmas or will he continue to drag his party into the shit into 2022?

YABU - hangs on for grim death

YANBU - Who the fuck is Johnson?

He's got an 80 seat majority

Until the voters who handed him that victory start bleating then he's pretty safe

Not necessarily. Thatcher won a 102 seat majority, she was gone within 3 years. It isn’t about the voters or the public in general, it’s about who is prepared to stab him in the back.

He’s going nowhere.

Why? Because for all his incompetence & venal dishonesty he remains an electoral asset to the Tory party. And until such times as that demonstrably changes, he’s safe.

@AnotherOneWithNoGoodName

Absolutely not.
Public opinion hasn't shifted against him, despite everything he personally, and the Tory party in general have done.
Thats democracy though innit.

I think you are wrong. MANY people are turning against Boris now. People have had enough. Enough of the Tories and their lies, and enough of Covid and the restrictions and how it has changed their lives. And now we find out that Bozza and his cronies have royally shafted us.

No WAY has public opinion not changed.

We need a general election, SOON, and the Conservatives will NOT win.

It's not gaslighting, it's lying. Pure deceit. Big shiny whoppers. Utterly two-faced.

Boris Johnson will go down in history as the most dishonest and deceptive PM we've ever had. #Boristheliar[/quote]
I do agree on the lying @madroid but I said gaslighting as he / they try to make it seem like the fault of the general public through our lack of understanding of the rules (Barnard castle - fine to drive the length of the country with covid) and their outright slipperiness in their choice of language (the guidelines were all followed etc). Utter bastards.

He'll go when one of the following happens:

(1) his party gets sick of him AND has a willing and viable replacement in mind (someone who can win a leadership contest and a general election) and he loses a leadership challenge/is persuaded to resign or

(2) he decides to go because he's gained what he can from serving as PM and staying any longer won't enhance his chances to make a fortune on the speaking/writing/consulting/etc. circuit as an ex-PM.

Neither of those is likely to happen this year.

When and if he does go, there'll be a leadership contest and we'll get another Tory, likely better in some ways and almost undoubtedly much worse in others, and even if that person/the party decide to call a General Election, they'll win (and given recent history, possibly increase their majority).

Wash, rinse, repeat until there's an Opposition that can win a general election.

Allegedlyy), so long and thanks for all the fish. But not before Christmas.

Just pondering whether he's a better parent than he is prime minister. That's a tough one OP given his woeful track record on both counts.

Since his maxim is one rule for everyone else and no rule for him, I can't see him even thinking he ought to go. Time will tell but there's no one waiting in the wings that seems any better, depressingly.

The tories learnt a LOT from Trump and the GOP...

No the Conservatives have an 80 seat majority they can get rid of Johnson anytime they want and will do in about six weeks or so

Boris Johnson's going nowhere. Starmer and Rayner make themselves look more ridiculous by the day - they're the gift that keeps on giving to the Tories.

Labour need to get rid of ‘half woman, half hairdo’ Rayner. An Tories need to get rid of ‘half man half hairdo’ Johnson

They’ll let the next wave of omicron and whatever else be on his watch too and replace him next autumn.

It won’t be Hunt - he’s far too sane - has to be someone to appease the crazed very right wingers.

Sunak would be my bet. Presentationally he’s the polar opposite of Johnson.

I've always said this, whilst he is in the opposition the Tories will get away with all of it.

They won't do anything , yet
Trouble will start if this new variant is as bad as delta is and more restrictions have to be brought in.
Nobody will follow them and then it might dawn on the 1922 committee that there is a huge problem they can't wriggle out of.
Also the new ' blue wall ' ( once a red wall ) needs to learn that lending a con man like Boris Johnson your vote was always going to bite you on the bum eventually.
I think he'll hang on till after Christmas at least.
Plus he wasn't at this party. That might have been a different story if he had been there and he would definitely be gone by now!
Who knows , though ?
