To buy my dog a pram?

She's perfectly healthy but a small mixed rescue who gets tired easily, one of her parents is a brachycephalic breed.

We go for walks but most she can do is 30/45 mins then she's done.
So we just go round the block or to the same Park 10 mins away. 10 there, 10 back and 20 in park absolutely floors her!

I would love to walk to parks further away, I'm so bored of the same small park. I don't drive and want to start walking for my health. There are lovely water parks about 40 min walk either side of my home but I know she would never be able to do 40 mins there, 40 mins back and a nice walk around the park.

WIBU to get some sort of dog pram to walk her there and back and let her enjoy the park as her walk?

One of the dog walkers here has a pram for her dog. I'm not actually sure if it is hers or someone else's but I see her quite a lot with it. No different to me pushing my kids around in a pram, they can't walk for, neither can the dog. That's what they are there for.

I would get one for my two small dogs, if necessary.
My neighbour pushes her elderly dog around in a dog pushchair. The dog absolutely loves being out but can only manage very small distances.
Go for it op! You’ll have the additional benefit of extra exercise yourself, if you can walk further.

I've been thinking about this for our rescue Frenchie. She can walk well for her breed but we have a bigger dog who can walk much further and we have to do two walks. I don't care if people laugh. My Frenchie would hate to go home early while DH walks the big boy and that's the only other option. I thought I'd get a proper dog one to avoid looking quite as loopy.

Buy it! I would do it as you can do more things with your dog. Also, in very hot weather the paws can burn so is a good idea.

In my childhood we always scooped our tired dogs/puppies into our hiking backpacks. They got used to it very quickly and were often reluctant to get out again. They bobbed along looking out over our shoulders very happily.

They were terriers/small spaniels though. Our present labrador is getting older... not sure how far I could carry him :)

Well yes but many can't because people breed dogs the way they do. OP said hers is a brachycephalic breed...that can't be changed., Do you know what brachycephalic means?

I have one for my sweet elderly chihuahua. It doubles up as her bed/secure space when we go away. I admit that I feel a bit of a nob pushing her round in it, but it’s so worth it for us to continue our long walks like we used to when she was younger, now that she can’t walk as far. Go for it OP! I got one with all-terrain wheels! It’s good for off-road paths and the beach, although the downside is that it is a bit cumbersome.

If your dog is a brachycephalic type is he goïng to be able to push a pram? Surely that will make it worse?

OP they do videos on YouTube about different brands of dog prams. I don't have a dog, I was just interested. I think they're a good idea.

I've a stroller for my big dog that also converts to a bike trailer that sometimes rides in as she has arthritis & was also useful post surgery so could still get out with my other dog. They benefit so much from all the sensory experiences of going on walks without the physical limitations.

No she's probably not very healthy but as a pound pup you get what you get and we have no clues about her breeding. She has a short snout, her tongue protrudes and she has very out of proportion short legs and is very stout.

Not good walking combination. But she's a fantastic dog who loves to get out.

She just can't go very far because of her breathing.

I have a cheap one from Amazon, £40 from memory. I have a very reactive scottie who gets a bit overwhelmed after a while so using the pram he feels a bit safer in his own space.
Tbh it's been a great buy. DD uses it for her sausage dog on holidays if they eat in cafes so he's out of the way and also uses it for Bicester village shops where they ask that dogs be in prams. I also use it for vet visits etc.

I concluded, whilst pushing it around blackpool front last year adorned with fairy lights, that I didn't really give a fuck what people thought if the dog inside it was getting some benefit from it.

That's what DH just said when I mentioned it....I suppose he doesn't want to be seen pushing a 'baby dog' in a pram! Can you link to what you both mean please? A cart sounds less dramatic looking but are they as practical?

Only if you get her a bonnet to wear while out in it!

I think it's a great idea - you get the exercise and she gets the outing, the chance to smell the scents on the breeze and feel the win in her fur, and then she can have a trot around the park without exhausting herself.
