Zoom Participant Had Guns

Creative writing group meets once weekly on Zoom. Newest member joined end of last year, he claims to be a professional writer, has one book published. He is British, just returned to UK after 30 years in Turkey. Can be very warm and friendly but when asked anything remotely personal he becomes defensive, aggressive even, and says he cannot say why he is here in UK.
His latest writing submission to the group mentioned a lot about guns, gun culture. During the Zoom meet he was drinking, and he mentioned that his published book opens with a terrorist blowing up an airport and it took him two years to research all the details around that scenario. He then pulled out this handgun and showed it to everyone, then another small gun, and finally what I can only describe as a big gun, but I’m confident it would not be described as a rifle.
Someone asked if they were plastic, but he said they were real.
This is a man who only 4 weeks ago was saying he was not registered with a doctor, and kind of does not exist because he was away from UK for so long, so does he have a gun licence?
After the Zoom he sent us all this email:

“Greetings,
The weapons I showed you are for short firing range target practice.
They do not, and cannot ever, fire lethal rounds.
Fun though.”

Am I right to be really bothered by this?

Sounds like a fantasist weirdo, looking to try and show off for some strange reason. Will most likely be airsoft guns, he'd probably have no chance having an FAC so shortly after returning to the UK, and even then, handguns are severely restricted, so that makes them even less likely to be real firearms.

They are probably air soft guns , some can look incredibly real but I would still feel that representing them as real guns on a group like that is inappropriate

If his message is correct then they are Airsoft guns, which can look very real deal

Nothing that you described is legal to own (if they are real firearms) even with a license

I wouldn't class that kind of behaviour as mischief. I'd say it was disturbing. The fact he states he doesn't exist yet shows he has guns. Weirdo. Report him.

Definitely not my idea for a novel, but it could be his idea. He is a mischief maker.

Is this your idea for a novel?! If you're concerned, report him to the police.
