AIBU?

To wonder what people do with their furniture when getting floors done?

I'm getting the whole house re-floored, laminate downstairs and carpet on stairs landing and bedrooms. I suppose previously I've done different rooms at different times, never all at once.

Now I'm panicking at the thought of having to get up at the crack of dawn to move beds, bedside tables, dressing tables, couches, table & chairs, bookcase and all extra bits into my (small!) back garden in one day. What if it rains? And I hate the idea of my neighbours seeing all that stuff! I'm starting to really regret getting them done, but they need doing.

Someone please tell me you've done it and it wasn't as bad and disruptive as I've built it up to be in my head?

It's a PITA but possible to just move stuff around.

@apooagnuandyou

One option is to put all the furniture in the bathroom

You are not in England, are you? Have you seen the size of our bathrooms!

No, it wouldn't all fit in the bathroom, but that's not what I said, is it?

We put it outside under some tarpaulin . You don’t want to do it on the day of.

Ah some good ideas here thanks! I'm feeling a bit calmer about it all. Yes our bathroom isn't huge but could fit a few smaller bits in there.

We stacked up the smaller stuff (lockers/shelves) in the bathroom, put beds on their side against the wall, and stacked furniture to one side of the room. They worked around it, and moved it around.

We took everything out under a gazebo but it was last summer and baking hit with no chance of rain. Otherwise just move it around the fitters.

We're about to do ours. One option is to put all the furniture in the bathroom (which is not having its floor redone) and the garage. Another was to hire one of those storage containers to sit outside the house while the floor is being done.

The thing I can't work out is what I'll do with my cats. They've never been to a cattery. I think we're going to rent an AirBNB for a few days and take them there with us. It's going to be a nightmare.

With Laminate, we just moved the furniture to one side of the room. Let the fitter do the empty side then moved all the furniture to the finished side. Did that in all the rooms.

You stick it all in one room and do that one last.

You don’t ideally need to shove it all in the garden. If you stay home, you can move it room to room as they move rooms themselves. Some flooring fitters will move it themselves but it costs extra.
