Putting the Christmas decs up - and other acts likely to end in divorce (light-hearted)

DH has struck fear into my heart by mentioning putting the decs up next weekend. It COULD be great - Christmas music on, large g&t, crack open a tub of Heroes and just getting into the the whole Christmassy vibe. The reality is that I’m married to a man who has to have the decs matching EXACTLY AND EQUALLY APART, and it will take hours as he repositions every single one until he’s happy. Shoot. Me. Now. Grin Anyone else?

I'm purposefully going to wait till he's out at work and do it I think. Save the stress of him trying to get involved and me the stress of not accepting it Grin

Could you not go out for the day while he does it? Bring back a bottle of bubbly when you think it might be fobe?

I swear buying a SatNav (way before you could use your phone) saved our marriage....

Go canoeing. Together. Just do it.

Every year I dream of a 'Doris Day' christmas. Music playing, happy rosy cheeked children, handsome husband in a sweater, drinking eggnog whatever the hell that is snow gently falling as we decorate the tree.
30 years we've been together and we've argued every single year. As soon as the boxes are out the lift it starts.
Cant wait for this years row. We have new living room furniture and the tree won't fit in its usual home. DH is determined it will so I'm ready for the row already.
Merry Bloody ChristmasGrin

Pour a glass of wine, do something like wrap presents in the same room & leave him to it. Perfectionists are easier to tolerate & do less faffing that way: & are handy to delegate to. You could always tweak something out of place at a later date if he's annoyed you or you fancy 20mins peace & quiet while he adjusts his work of art!

Oh god, nikkylou, that’s was last years drama - half the hanging decs got completely tangled. Any sane person would have binned the lot (net worth £10), but no, we had to try and untangle them... Hmm

Make sure you shop for said decorations that little bit too late, where they only have half the range in any colour left, so you can white and gold baubles but only silver and red tinsel.

In preparation for next year, make sure you throw all your lights in box together, and give a good shake. Ensure you lose one of the plug connectors and unscrew one or two bulbs slightly.

I'm insisting we make a Christmas cake tomorrow together. I have an idea it will be lovely making something together, with cakey smells in the air and music playing. The reality is probably going to be mess, him whining about wanting to play games instead and me not wanting to ruin a cake...

@Namelessinseattle that's the only place DH and I argue.....although Dh no longer gets involved with the decorating only the buying of the tree.

We have a traditional Griswald Christmas edition watching in the afternoon.

Don't put a tent up together!

Picket - THAT would end our marriage. Let’s just say navigating is not my strong point.

@Namelessinseattle has a great idea. Make sure it’s not the ikea closest to you though, aim for one that’s at least an hour or two drive away. Car journeys are definitely our place of choice for threats of divorce Grin

You should go to IKEA together that morning. Set you up properly.
