Hi all,
We've had a couple of reports about this but from our bleary-eyed early morning reading, it seems to us that the OP was suggesting 'that the lady who hated her philtrum' watch HDM because it shows off the beauteous elegantly-philtrumed goddess that is Ruth Wilson in all her magnificent glory?
See also 2006's Jane Eyre, ye gods, where she was supposed to be PLAIN. So, we're leaving it.
And if this becomes a thread merely to exclaim at how FANTASTIC an actor Wilson is, or even to discuss the finer points of His Dark Materials, we most certainly would not complain.

To suggest that the lady who hated her philtrum...

I don't get it. If the philtrum is the vertical groove above the lip then ruth Wilson doesn't have one at all so how can it be long?

I stopped watching the affair I found her too irritating. He was too tbf

Ruth Wilson is stunning. She has next to no pilthrum though so o can't quite get this to match up to telling someone the long pilthrum is beautiful. Sorry.

I can see the OP is being positive not negative but perhaps it’s time to stop the general dissection of well known women so they end up discussed as a series of body parts, regardless of whether the discussion is positive or negative. As a general pastime it does none of us any favours.

The OP is being positive but perhaps doesn't quite understand what a philtrum is because RW doesn't have a pronounced one Confused

@ilovetofu, please next time, could you make your OP clearer? Because it was as clear as mud tbh.
Not everyone will have come across the thread about the woman who didn’t like her philtrum.
I still have no idea what you mean by ‘dark materials’.

Next time, just elaborate. You’ll avoid many people wondering what the fuck you are talking about. Even if they dint actually post in the thread.

This is a pronounced philtrum on the gorgeous AJ.

Given that RW has no philtrum at all this thread is really weird. Can't work out if the intention is nasty or not.

I think RW may have a short philtrum, giving her that unusual, but gorgeous, upper lip shape. I'm not gay, but it looks eminently kissable to me...

She plays the part fabulously too. Very conflicted.

I cannot believe how wound up people can get about a smidgen of potential ambiguity. It was instantly obvious to me, as to other posters, what the spirit of the thread was, so it was perfectly forgivable for the OP to have assumed everyone would grasp her meaning, and if there was a tiny bit of room for misinterpretation it was easily cleared up.

Is this why people can no longer communicate without punctuating every single sentence with an emoji?

The overuse of fillers now means that virtually no one in celebrity land has a philtrum at all. Probably why the pp referred to was paranoid about hers. No one has nose to mouth lines anymore either. My dd has started watching Friends and its striking how all the women in the show had the normal wrinkles and face lines that 30 year olds have, you just don't see that on TV anymore. Those Friends actresses don't have those lines now 20 years later Grin

What is the normal length of a philtrum? How do you measure it?

Haha at the posters who took this thread the wrong way. Sad how some are so keen to be arsey.

I think RE is stunning too. She has a bit of a ducky look to her top lip but it looks cool. I've seen her act at the National Theatre and she was fab. She is a genuinely talented actor who can do different roles with ease.

RW is both very beautiful and a fabulous actress, did anyone watch her in Mrs Wilson? And she is a fabulous Mrs Coulter.

I didn't even know what a philtrum was before the original thread! So thankyou troll for educating me, even if I'm still not sure what constitues a lobg or short philtrum.

I love to see women with individual faces looking so stunning. So often we assume that our unusual feature is a defect.

For goodness sake. People are so dim.

The thread is clearly about this actress being pretty. That’s not nasty or mean.

I don't think it was at all clear what the thread was about. Ruth Wilson does not have a pronounced philtrum which, whilst she is beautiful and that isn't a negative characteristic in any way, is slightly unusual. Therefore the OP read to me "to the lady who was worried about her philtrum: it could be worse, you could be like RW and not have one at all!". Obviously I'm not the only one who read it that way.

OP has since clarified her meaning but I'm not at all surprised that some PPs thought this thread was mean spirited and I certainly don't think anybody was "dim" to reach that conclusion.

This is exactly what the OP meant surely, since RW has no philtrum.

I had no idea it was such a thing, now I'm looking at everyone's Grin. Just watched a mila kunis film who has a lovely, very pronounced philtrum!!
