Water at school- Hydro flasks.

My dd has just started Secondary school. I have checked on parent pay and she has bought water with her lunch time meals.

I think this is a waste of money and of single use plastics. So have asked her to take a water bottle. She is insisting her perfectly fine water bottle that she used in primary is too heavy. Its a red metal insulated one. I have the same one.

She now would like a hydro flask. These are £30. There are cheaper copies available or is this the Naff co 54 equivalent of the Naff Naff jacket.

Has anyone got one? Are they worth it?

I think she should just use her old one.

DC’s school are stopping selling bottled water and have introduced more water fountains.
My dd hates plastic water bottles and has a hydro flask coming shortly. The sistema ones do go gross after a while.,

I'm very sympathetic to my dc wanting things that "everyone else has" because we never did.
However I would definitely draw the line at a £30 water bottle. It'll get damaged or lost.

My school didn’t allow water bottles. I got taken out of school for dehydration more than once. I would get quickly overheated during the warmer months.

Much easier to have kids staying hydrated so they can stay focused on their lessons.

Hydroflasks are excellent, but heavy compared with other insulated bottles. I also have a Chilly bottle, same size as the Hydro, 500ml. It's lighter and the patterned ones would very likely be acceptable to your DD.

Neither of them leak even when full and lying on their side in my bag. I especially like the Chilly one, it's the Jungle pattern and while it looks all grey on the website, on my monitor at least, it isn't at all. I do like the touch of being able to choose the colour of the top you want with your bottle.

I'm not being nuts in having two water bottles; I bought the Chilly close to my birthday, and a relative bought me the Hydro as a birthday present! The Chilly feels more comfortable in the hand.

I had to google them to find out what they are. Looked at the photo and realised both my children have them.

DS got one when we were doing a lot of hiking and it was the only one we could find in the first outdoor gear store we found.

DD got one at a huge discount in a different outdoor gear store.

None of us had any idea they're trendy.

They seem to work fine. Don't leak. DS sometimes takes tea to school in his.

@violashift, Just googled and there’s an Ebay shop claiming to sell hydroflasks from between £4.87 (!) and £15.99.

No idea if they’re the genuine article though.

The screw tops on my Hydro and Chilly's don't leak, they do need to be screwed up properly. The sport tops leak, it's unavoidable with that type of top. The metal bottles keep drinks hot or cold better than the plastic ones, and I think they're more hygienic.

I bought a carabiner for my Chilly's bottle. The side pocket on my PacSafe bag isn't quite big enough to zip it completely closed over the bottle and the carabiner stops it being stolen.

I was going down the stairs in Symphony Hall in Birmingham after a concert, and someone nicked my bottle of water, an ordinary plastic bottle fortunately, but I was furious.

^Look up VSCO girl

Hydro flasks
Birkenstocks
Oversized t-shirts
Hair thrown on top of the head in a floppy up-do (whatever it’s called)
Polaroid cameras
Fjallraven backpacks^

Oh good grief, the ripe old age of 48 I am accidentally on trend. Apart from the camera, I’ve been using al those things years and years.

I left my beoooooootiful chilly’s watermelon on the train and nae fucker ever handed it in. The devastation! 😭

Actually liberating a plastic water bottle from your bag is a step too far though.

I have the sho sports one with a straw, for my girls they were around £16, I think. They keep the water cold for hours. Girls drink more water with them.

Bummer! The Chilly's bottles are pretty aren't they, very tempting. The bottle I had pinched said Evian on the label, but it was ordinary tap water.
