Has anyone used these? Do they work? Got a wedding in a fortnight that l should have already lost weight for but guess what? I haven't! Unlikely l will lose my spare tyre (which l totally blame menopause for) in time but wasn't sure if they are worth the money?

Personally never found them that great - they seem to push the rolls elsewhere leaving you with a “mushroom” top. Also super difficult to pull back up when going to the loo

They do work but be prepared for a miserable day of discomfort. The really good ones are hard to really sit down in for any length of time and you won’t want to eat much.

Unlike other posters I bought a pair of real spanx pants. Only worn a few times but they were great. Not for losing pounds but for tucking and smoothing under a tight dress. The top tucked under my bra strap - you don't want back fat rolls.

I find control tights much more comfortable than Spanx, they hold you in a bit and just stop it all wobbling but don’t push the fat up or down.
I buy mine from m and s .

I have a job interview tomorrow and went shopping for an outfit yesterday, I tried on some kind of spanx type things to wear under my shift dress and very nearly got stuck! I decided I was going to be far too hot and uncomfortable squeezed into that under a shift dress and blazer, and yeah it kind of just squeezes the flab up into other areas!!

I dont know if they count as spanx but i have this pair of shorts that go from rivs to mid thigh from m&s, i always wear them with dresses, they dont make me look thinner, bit rather tidier - smooth the seams of underwear, stop flab jiggling, smooths my hips and bum etc. I dont find them uncomfortable?

So id say if you want to smooth and tighten yes, if you are expecting them to make you look 3st lighter dont bother!

They won't make you a size smaller, no, but I often wear them under more clingy fabrics, as they do smooth.

Are there no items of underwear which cannot make us look three stone lighter?

This is disappointing. I thought technology had caught up with me at last.

It depends what your figure is like as to which Spanx type underwear will suit you best. For example, I am an apple shape with a big waist and found a body type garment or slip dress was best. If you are pear shaped then perhaps the shorts are a good idea. I also found control knickers from m & s were quite good. I agree with the other posters that you won’t go down a dress size but it’ll smooth everything out. You may possibly lose inches in places - depends which area you’re focusing on.

I just wear control knickers. They hold my stomach in nicely and avoid VPL. I'm still the same size I usually am when wearing them.

You could lose a stone in a fortnight. Not sustainably but it's doable on a vlcd

I find that the control slips that have straps that go under your bra are much more comfortable and do the same job. Don't make me look thinner just smoother. Easier to use the loo too.

I use M&S control underwear for a smoother silhoutte. I'm slim, but pregnancy gave me a wobbly mum tum which can easily look lumpy from other waistlines. The shorts are good for streamlining my hips.

They work better if you aren’t pear shaped (ie apple or barrel shaped) and your fat isn’t soft (ie you aren’t slim with a spare tyre).

Just get actual Spanx.
I spent years not wanting to shell out for the real stuff and spending a small fortune on various garments from m and s etc. All were rubbish. Spanx is awesome

I have always worn them unless tight/silk dresses ever since I was a teenager. I’m not massively fat but it smooths everything out and prevents you looking misshapen if you forget to hold your stomach taught for a minute or something.

They definitely work for my mum tum, it just keeps that little bulge at bay. Grin

Primark have some brilliant control pants in either white, nude or black. They sit around waist height and just smooth everything over

Spanx tights are great- some go above the waist.

Miraclesuit are amazing. Spanx don’t have enough hold for me. I got these bad boys

for a wedding recently and they hid my awful belly away from sight. I also bought some straps to go with them to keep them up as the high waisted stuff always rolls down on me.

I lost all the weight just putting them on and taking them off. I honestly don't think I could have sweat any more trying to get the bastards back on after I went to the loo (not helped by a drink or two). I looked so hot, sweaty & flustered by the time I had wrestled my wobbly bits back inside them, that it completely countered any benefit that might have been gained by looking slightly smoother below the waist!!!!! I had to spend the rest of the event trying not to drink any more liquid so that I didn't need the loo again!
