First time planning kids party - help!

So DD will be 1 soon and as she has many cousins and friends from her classes, we are doing a small kids party just to mark the occasion (after this we will most likely be going away for her bday every year as its around easter).

We've booked a package with venue hire and play, incl a larrrrrge bouncy castle with tunnel/slide for older kids and a small bouncy area with ball pit for babies and toddlers.

Im unsure what to do with party bags so was looking for ideas. Most of her class (swim/sensory/play) are same age as her or younger by a couple months, i had the idea that as its a few days before easter, do a book and an little easter egg for the babies and normal size easter egg for the kids aged 3/4 or older.
Does that sound okay?

So in a nutshell my questions are;

  1. Does that party sound okay?
  2. Any other ideas for party bags or are those ok?
  3. WIBU to put 'optional costume/fancy dress' as she will be wearing a wonder woman costume?

Be gentle MN lol

At the age of 1 the party will be more for the parents so make sure you have food for them. Some soft play equipment sounds good to keep them entertained. I can't think of a single thing a 1 year old would want for a party bag! Some parents may be funny about chocolate - how about a small Easter toy or book?

TitsAndTomatoes · 19/02/2019 09:12

Oh yes. Im still giving a book, as its something id already decided on. I see what you mean because my DD wouldnt have an easter egg..id have it for her lol.
Easter toy sounds good!
What about for older kids around 4? Should i steer away from an easter egg and just get a more age suitable book for them?

What about an Easter craft set instead?

Home bargains do loads starting at about 50p or even a little bath toy?

I'd avoid giving the young ones an Easter egg but great for older ones

Holidayblues31 · 19/02/2019 09:16

Maybe a little pack of chocolate coins for the older ones instead of an Easter egg? Easier for the parents to ration!

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 19/02/2019 09:18

Small chocolate buttons or sweets that can be divided up. Parents will thank you. I wouldn’t expect a party bag at a one year old party. Most of the kids are too young to appreciate them

happymum1984 · 19/02/2019 09:19

Aldi & Lidl to packs of 10 chocolate Easter bunny lollipops for 99p and the chocolate is really nice

They also do Easter bunny's for about 80p

@happymum1984 i love easter craft idea! Lots of the babies will be having their first easter so itll be a lovely bit of kit for them to make with their parents.

Right. I need to get to home bargains!

Sounds ace! My dd has afew babies at her party I've put in there's some bubbles for their mums to blow with them! And a pack or marshmellows! There isn't really much for them tbh

Fraggle84 · 19/02/2019 09:38

Baker Ross is great for craft bits too and free delivery at the moment if you spend £25

The range had Easter bonnet making sets in and other bits

shpoot · 19/02/2019 09:45

A book and an Easter egg will turn out expensive. Crayons, few chocolate coins or chocolate lolly from a home bargains multipack and a slice of cake. Blow balloons up and throw them around and they'll all leave clutching one

leahtalbot96 · 19/02/2019 12:10

Keep it simple. That is my only piece of advice. For the twins first birthday party, I served cake and played a poker game with the adult guests who were polite enough to come. That was all. We held it at home to save money.

Chimmychunga · 19/02/2019 12:19

We had a

You sound like you have it sorted. All sounds great to me. Personally I'd prefer a small choc egg to the fiddly bits in craft. My kids were notorious for putting bits in their mouths.

kateandme · 19/02/2019 12:32

Slice of cake.
Crayons.
stickers.
Bookmark
Chick chocolate lollipop from Aldi
Easter bonnet to make
Easter notebook
Bath and bedtime book and rubber duck.
Glo sticks
Cadbury mini eggs.
Cornflakes nests.
Colouring in.

Over the years we've had^

livingthegoodlife · 19/02/2019 20:42

i think just the book and a slice of birthday cake. i dont think any parties i have been for 1 year olds have ever had party bags. i didn't really let my kids have sweets/choc until about 3 so i wouldn't bother with that.

sounds like a lovely party. hope you have a great time!

Jamhandprints · 19/02/2019 20:42

Easter eggs for the older ones is great. Just the £1 Smarties ones, nothing too expensive. But I honestly don't think you need to do party bags for the 1 year olds! I totally understand the enthusiasm and you have great ideas but it's a bit OTT. Babies will be delighted to go home with one of the party balloons. Babies parents won't expect party bags at that age. But I agree with a PP, first birthdays are the only one that is actually more a celebration for the adults, so make sure you feed them.

Jamhandprints · 19/02/2019 20:44

Oh and fancy dress is also a bit much but quite fun! :-)

ShimmeringIce · 19/02/2019 21:40

I can’t imagine having such an elaborate party for a baby, but I expect helium balloons would go down well. They can be really cheap if you’ve time to order from China and buy a cylinder of gas.

Cuntforthebutter · 20/02/2019 09:19

Mini bottle of bubbles for the party bag?

Boomerangs · 20/02/2019 13:03

Everything original poster said in first post sounded great v similar to what we did 1st bday
Would not bother with chocolate for babies though

Cora1942 · 20/02/2019 13:12

Keep it simple so you enjoy the day too.
Timing is most important thing. Make sure it not nap time.
Personally i would do a morning party for this age 10 to 11.30. Then you really only have to serve fruit, cake and drink for children , and bubbly, tea, coffee and cake for adults.
