dd1 came back from the library today with 'Secret Water' by Arthur Ransome.

Dh has just passed me the book and pointed.

The blurb says 'Marooned on an island, John, Susan, Titty and Roger begin map-making and exploring'.

Just got the confirmation email....

"Posting permission will be arranged and an email sent confirming
access when I get round to it .....
....hopefully that will be quite soon.
'till then do try and remember what username and password you requested ..."

Voice of experience there I think!

I had to look in my junk mail box for the email though - odd that this one ended up in there, while 'F*ck Friend Finder : Search Your Area Today' came straight through to my inbox....

I like the rules page though - the guy who runs it obviously has a sense of humour - maybe MN needs a page like that....

Attila.

I have not been there for ages, must go back!
Could do with a few women and younger people on there, too - there are some lovely and very interesting people but most of them are men of a certain age.
It's a bit different from Mumsnet....

Tawnykitten - thank you for continuing the amusing insults. Perhaps I should draw my eyes even wider for your amusement?

(Cue all the other "nice" people telling me that it's only a joke so don't get so touchy.) Try walking for a mile in my shoes.

We still call garibaldi biscuits 'squashed fly' biscuits in our family - that originated with the S&A books.

tawnykitten is referring to a previous thread (which I am referring to in my title). It's a long story but basically I was opposed to the name Chinky.

(chinky refers to the enid blyton thread IIRC)

i hope pemmican was corned beef otherwise

Chippy - the links page from the top of the discussion board has a lot of good stuff which used to be on the main TARS website but they have smartened that up and now there is less on it.

There have been long discussions on Tarboard about pemmican being corned beef, together with descriptions and explanations for overseas readers

Pemmican is actually dried meat, sed by explorers but I would guess that what the children ate was corned beef, called pemmican to make it more exciting - they also called lemonade 'grog'

Nightynight · 24/06/2007 22:21

well, I let my children talk about rubbers, so maybe I am being irresponsible? They are not at an american school, though.

I wouldnt think twice about the name Titty.
