...to see opposite neighbour looking out her kitchen window at me, licking plates before loading dishwasher)

I am not sure whether to be horrified at being caught out red-handed as it were, mid-lick, cleaning my dish before loading it in d'washer or just, oh well, I love my food and none will go to waste whilst I'm around.

Its gross though isn't it...oh... am swinging here...I just can't get enough of the taste and I need to portion control, so don't want to leave anything!

Camb should have waved with a flourish and smiled broadly
... perhaps extended polite invite for neighbours to join me

Just yours or everyone else's?

You seem weirdly proud of this OP Shock

I've actually found this OP relatively normal compared to some on here Grin.

Oh dear! Hmm now I think I should have put a trigger warning! Profuse apologies to boakers, voms and the congealed averse

Gross if the Queen is visiting or you're her guest, otherwise not really.

Sometimes I lick my plate if the food's been particularly delicious. If you're not in company - unless it's your nearest and dearest - then why not? The plates'll get properly washed afterwards.

Yep, gross and slightly disturbing that you are practically inside the dishwasher doing it and encouraging your children to behave the same - I pity their future partners.

Thank heaven it was a plate. When I saw the thread title I wondered if she were up a ladder, cleaning windows! My pulse rate has gone back to normal...…………....

To the pp who said about food and control, perhaps nail on head. I love my food, but have to control its intake, much. So I'm not going to miss any of the flavours left on the plate

That's why I love MN... somewhere, somehow, there's always someone with lower standards than me!

What did you do? I hope you waved.

Still laughing here!

I referred to licking plates, as in that's what she saw. Picture: me, sideways on, half bent over extended d/washer basket cleaning plate with my tongue spaniels would be proud when I noticed their kitchen light on, realised mine was on, and, head half twisted tongue still out, our eyes met.

How long after the meal was this op?

What was it?

How many plates did she see you lick?

PippaRabbit · 28/10/2018 16:50

Licking plates is beyond grim. I've never seen anyone doing it nor want to - it makes my stomach heave thinking about it. 🤢

Oysterbabe · 28/10/2018 16:50

That is so gross 😂
And I say that as someone with really low standards.

I've never quite understood plate licking and doubt I ever will but never mind. You need to either close the blinds or put some up then no one can see what you in your own kitchen.
I personally wouldn't feel any shame.

I also encourage DC I'm very bad to clean theirs properly too - holding up my shiny plate as evidence of how much better mine is than theirs Halloween Grin

This is why you have bread on the table. Mop up any sauce/gravy. Then you don't weird out the neighborhood by licking plates.

Well it's not just that. The first stage of digestion starts in the mouth. Look what happens when you lick a spoon and leave it in a lot of yoghurt. Left over food on the plate has been mingling with other people's spit which is starting to digest it. Then someone else licks it off?

I need you to say you just do it to your own plate man OP Grin

It’s not the ‘bad manners’ aspect that bothers me, it’s the thought of licking cold, congealed food off plates 😩. Makes me want to vom. As a PP says, if it’s your own plate directly after a meal then it’s vaguely more tolerable. Vaguely. Otherwise... urgh.
