Cabin bag help

cantquitebelieveit12 · 20/10/2018 20:06

Posting for traffic.

Just realised that my standard cabin is 1cm wider than Flybe’s allowed dimensions. Never flown with them before, any recommendations as I have 1 day to find a suitable bag & I can’t filter by dimensions on the shopping sites.

Don't be so sure it was Flybe that made us pay an extravagant £40 two weeks ago flying Southampton to Edinburgh and were doing the same to the other passengers as the width of their allowance is less than most airlines

Flybe hardly ever weigh bags never mind measure them!
You have nothing to worry about.

#cantquitebelieveit12 definitely agree with you on the reasons why their allowance is so small, the plane was tiny, sounded like it had a petrol mower engine powering it too 😳
We checked in online and nobody even looked at our bags and I noticed that when we were in the plane, most peoples carry Ons were way over their size restrictions! Obviously a deterrent, however, I wouldn’t want to risk it just incase you have to stump up the fee to put your case in the hold!
I would think twice about flying with them again due to the size restrictions, Ryanair is definitely not an option either, so I’d have to look in to other budget airlines available with more Transparent charges.

Don't ignore their limits we had to pay on the day for a cabinbag that DH swore he had meaured in advance

Ignore the rule. It’s 1cm.

I took two bags on an easy jet flight a few months ago and no one batted an eye lid. One in overhead one under the seat. Did it again a few weeks ago and they didn’t have enough space for all the wheely bags so mine went in the hold (no charge). If I hadn’t had my 2nd bag I wouldn’t have had anywhere to put the things I needed for the flight...water, passport, wallet, e-reader etc.

It’s 1cm I doubt they will have time to check

We are home now Pimmsypimms & I think the reason for the smaller allowance is the size of the planes? Our plane was small with tiny overhead lockers. Annoyingly I could have probably taken my slightly bigger case as they were checking them in free of charge & none were checked, oh well.
Not heard of those hunibuni but we were only away for 4 days.

Check my bag or unibaggage is your friend. Way cheaper than paying for luggage

#cantquitebelieveit I’ve checked all of my cases and they are all too big!! I’ve had to borrow a backpack. The annoying thing is that I popped in to TK Max at the weekend (also checked on amazon) to look for a case and many of them say “cabin size approved” however, not for Flybe they aren’t!! Most of them are too big! I wonder how many people have made the mistake of buying them and getting stung with a charge at the airport!! I definitely won’t be paying the £44 to my bag in the hold when my flight was only £100!
Not sure id book Flybe again either, I just hate the sneaky tactics the cheap airlines use to get more money out of you 😡

I flew with Flybe recently and I could only find a bag that was 1cm over. The overhead bjns are smaller than other airlines and everyone's case was a tight fit but I think you'll be fine.

Pimmsypimms I only realised because I couldn’t find my bag so searched for it online to send a picture to my family checking if anyone borrowed it. It had one review that popped up saying it was too big for Flybe, which then prompted me to check Flybe’s website. It’s an £80 charge I think (£40 each way) if it doesn’t fit.

Which flight is it? I've done flybe four times and every time there's only been about a dozen people on the plane.

I’m flying with Flybe next week, thanks for the heads up, I’d better measure my carry on case then!

Report
bigbluebus · 20/10/2018 22:40

Overhead locker on flybe can be quite small. I had a case that was within their dimensions but I could only close the locker if I put the case face down. If it was on its back the hard edge stopped the door from closing. So definitely no room for chancing it with an oversized bag!

to make matters worse I can’t even find my usual cabin bag, DH has searched the loft but no luck.

If it's slightly squishy and it really is only 1cm oversized, you should be fine (you will be able to stuff it into the thingy they use to check sizes)

IME they are stricter when the plane is full than on quieter flights

I have a cabinmax backpack, bought from Amazon, which is great as it is just under the maximum dimensions.

Thanks all it’s £44 for me to pack a hold bag so just going to do that & will remember not to book Flybe again, Easyjet is more generous.

Are you near a big Tesco? I bought a cabin bag from them in April and they had a selection of different sizes and styles. The one I ended up getting was slightly smaller than the maximum size for EasyJet.

Report
InspectorIkmen · 20/10/2018 22:22

It's a big gamble as to whether you get away with it or not. Most times I've flown with EasyJet they haven't checked but three or four times they have - and the bloody bag was slightly outside of permitted size range. Absolute nightmare - had to stuff my pockets full of stuff, throw away my book etc on one occasion. So I've learned my lesson and they won't catch me like that again!
Good luck finding something!

Buy a soft bag that you can push down under the seat.

feck it, will just pay to put a bag in the hold online before I go as I can’t face the faff.

Flew Thomas Cook from Gatwick last month and they were checking sizes of cabin bags at the gate and making people check them in (at a cost) if they were oversized/overweight.

Do you need the space of a large bag? I tend to pack everything in my hold bag and just take a small rucksack with stuff for the flight that I can stick under the seat in front and find that much easier.
