I've name changed because it's outing. But been there through all- cancel the cheque etc

I am in my mid twenties, I have a fairly decent relationship that might or might not end up in marriage ( this is another topic issue). I work 35 hours a week in a very demanding industry AND I have just started my second university degree.

I came home today and I am washing the bloody curtains. I almost fell asleep in class today.

I am tired. My house needs a very DEEP clean which I'm going to do at the week-end.

Can I have a pity party, please? And a hand hold? And very effective time management, please?

Did I miss the point of this post? I don’t understand

Do you get the urge to do things when there is no time? I get that. It's a form of anxiety. Leave it til the urge goes away and ask yourself why it needs to be done now. Same goes for deep clean. Why this weekend and why all at one? Can't you do it in stages?

The curtains could've waited a day or two or could be dry cleaned, which is better for them.

Why does everyone’s mind go straight to there being spunk all over the curtains? 😂

I deep cleaned when I was about 34 1/2 weeks pregnant. Well half deep cleaned. DS was born at 35 weeks. Cleaning causes babies.

In my early 20s I bought a pair of beautiful but grubby silk brocade curtains in Portobello market. Took them home, put them in bath to soak overnight in Ariel washing powder, the washing powder with amazing biological action. It ate my lovely curtains. In the morning there was but a bath full of sludge. I recommend dry cleaning.

Never mind washing curtains...an ANNUAL deep clean?!? The only time I've ever deep cleaned was after we knocked down a wall cos the dust was horrendous but other than that, happily been in this house 8 years and just do the normal amount of vacuuming, dusting, cleaning etc. CBA with a deep clean of the entire house!!!!

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar oh it's far away from dirty, like proper dirty, but as you say, I might have an obsessive of cleanliness. I do take the heavy ones to dry cleaners as they definitely can't go into the washing machine, just washing the white plain ones Smile

Thank you!

Is there sperm on the curtains? If not, leave them alone.
I speak as one who sees housework as an impingement on painting time.

It sucks to be tired, university is so much easier as a student when you aren't both physically and mentally drained from a full-time job too.

The curtain thing is a bit of a red herring though, so I'm not surprised that most of your feedback here is about that. I've never washed curtains, even when I lived in quite a high-pollution area of London, just shake them occasionally and perhaps use a hand-held vacuum if they are very dusty. In fact, most of mine would probably need to be dry-cleaned as they are quite fancy fabrics, and I definitely can't be bothered with that. Your cleanliness standards are higher than average (way, way higher than mine), do you think you could let things slide just a bit, perhaps until the end of the semester? Instead of doing a deep clean just have a bit of extra sleep this weekend. I'm pretty sure that your house is a long way from levels of dirt that would be dangerous to health.

It was easier with the baby than it was with the 40 hour week in all honesty

OP I think full time job and 35 hours uni sounds a lot. Your choice is learn to live with a less than perfect house or get a cleaner, or wash the curtains but don't moan about it. Make sure you allow for shrinkage when you put them up again - I washed some curtains in the summer and the bastarding things shrunk and won't meet in the middle.

@MamaLovesMango oh, for a second I really thought you were trying to put me down. Well, i am sure that if you did it with a baby I'll manage to do it!Smile

Now, if you excuse me, I'm off to polish my silverGrinGrin

‘I’m SO tired. I’m working on my second degree in Faberge Eggs that resemble key Russian Political Figures whilst working 20 hours a week in my own bookshop. But it’s SUCH hard work! Especially when I have to polish the silver at home on a Tuesday afternoon. Has anybody got any tips on how to keep on top of it all? I’m just in my knees’

You get the idea. Anyway on a serious note...

I once worked a 40 hour week and studied for and studied (my second!) degree. Later had a baby and studied the same degree. That’s all there was time for. Of course I could be found cleaning the skirting boards at midnight from time to time, especially when a deadline loomed but it was procrastination, which I suspect the Tuesday curtain cleaning might also be Wink Keep focused or drop a task.

@hamabr86 thank you very much!
@Ollivander84 I've read before about the organised mum method. Sounds good and it seems like you can really keep on top of things with it. Thanks for your suggestion!

I do the organised mum method which works great for me - I have a FT job and a PT job
30 mins cleaning in one room, 4 days a week after work for me (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room) and nothing at weekends. One day a week I spend the 30 mins doing a deeper clean in one of the rooms

Some people are more easily drained than others. I would certainly be exhausted by that and I did work full time and go to college three nights a week (didn't drive either so walked there for over and hour and back again). It is tiring and sometimes you just want a good old whinge about it for no other reason than it makes you feel better. YANBU.
