To think you dont need the matching knickers to every new bra you buy

I was having this chat with DH this evening as I am about to do a big bra shop (quantity and size now it would seem - boom boom) before rtw after a year ebf.

Spending a very very minimum of £20 per bra (looking at M&S) I dont feel I need to spend half that again on one pair of pants just because they match....DH thought you do clearly its been a long time since we had pre pj sex

What do you think?

I would if you can afford it.

Mamaryllis · 15/10/2018 04:51

I don’t think I own one pair of matching pants. I’m clearly not womanning properly Grin

Thenewdoctor · 15/10/2018 04:52

I like to have matching pants. Doesn’t mean I always wear them but if the bra has pants that match I will usually buy them.

flumpybear · 15/10/2018 04:53

Apart from in thebbag, they'd never see each other again - my underwear is an enigma - gets lost for ages then turns up .... it's the washing machine monster underwear and sock stealer

MawkishTwaddle · 15/10/2018 04:54

Get him to treat you then, if he's so bothered.

You'll probably need two pairs of matching knickers per bra, as you change them every day...Wink

Noteverythingisabingthing · 15/10/2018 04:55

I hate the matching pants you get with bras, they are scratchy and horrible. I just team black bras with basic black cotton pants. Maybe not very glam but it is comfy!

RefuseTheLies · 15/10/2018 04:56

I like to have a few matching sets, but I’m a lazy moo and cba with hunting out matching underwear every day.

AnnieOH1 · 15/10/2018 04:58

I'm another black bra with any black pant for daily wear - they all reasonably match as in plain cotton with a T-shirt bra or lace with lace etc. For coloured bras though I always buy a set with at least 2 different pant styles, although don't really do colours thinking about it. It all just makes me feel put together somehow.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/10/2018 04:58

I remember my mother once, when I was a child, saying that my aunt always wore matching underwear. The aunt concerned was very rigid. And still is actually. I'm very sure her underwear still matches. Mine never has.

PhilomenaButterfly · 15/10/2018 05:01

I have 2 plain white bras. Why do they need to match?

Biancadelriosback · 15/10/2018 05:07

It's total pot luck if I happen to have a black bra and black knickers on. Same with matching socks, total pot luck

SPARKS17 · 15/10/2018 05:07

I love matching bras and knickers (always bought multiple knickers to match the one bra), Then pregnancy and breast feeding happened. Given the choice I would rather match than not!

StarfishSandwich · 15/10/2018 05:21

I lived with a girl at uni who owned over 40 matching sets of underwear and was horrified that most of mine didn’t match. It’s all very well when you wear a 32B or something and can buy bras at reasonable prices. Not so straightforward when you wear a 28GG (as I did then) and have to spend £30+ on bras as a poor student!

Having said that, I’m no longer a poor student (just a poor healthcare professional on mat leave instead) and see it as an unecessary extravagance.

cakesandphotos · 15/10/2018 05:24

The only matching bra and knickers I have was bought for my wedding night 5 years ago. Having said that, I regularly wear black knickers with a black bra, just the bra is a non wire maternity bra (8 months pp and not BFing 🤷🏼‍♀️) and the pants are primary’s over the tummy button pants Grin

cakesandphotos · 15/10/2018 05:24

Primark’s

ImogenTubbs · 15/10/2018 05:28

I agree with starfishsandwich - as a 36FF I need a few good bras that fit and make my clothes look good - and knickers that don't give me a VPL. They rarely come from the same set! I gave up worrying about this years ago... I do have some matching for the odd special occasion, but every day? Nah!

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/10/2018 05:32

If I am buying a bra for a special occasion outfit then I will buy the matching knickers, wear them together once and then they end up seperated forever!

I have a couple of nude bras and black ones as I mainly wear black clothes and nude goes better under the odd white shirt I wear. My knickers are all black cotton. Then I have a small collection of posh bras and pants that do not match :o

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/10/2018 05:37

I should add that my overall attitude to bras seems to horrify certain women. I had a reduction 17 years ago but the years pre op got me used to only owning 2 bras at a time (due to cost....£50 plus at the old lady bra shop in town) so I dont feel the need to have a collection, I usually have a wash, a wear, a spare and a couple of "going out" bras.

Eliza9917 · 15/10/2018 05:52

When you take them off put the bra through a knicker leg and do it up. That way they stay together in the wash.

I used to only wear matching sets. None of those fit anymore so now I wear Primark big pants (the stretchy ones made out of comfort bra material) and have m&s bras. I try to match colours though.

One day I will get back in to my nice ones!

FinallyHere · 15/10/2018 06:34

Have only one or twice bought the matching (french) knickers, as PPs said, they are scratchy and horrible to wear.

For wearing outside the bedroom, I much prefer my own, 100% cotton full briefs, ideally in a nude shade but some white and some black ones. Who said romance is dead.

CherryPavlova · 15/10/2018 06:38

No, not a single set of underwear. They all look terribly uncomfortable and synthetic. I just have dingy grey/beige/black.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/10/2018 06:39

What do you wear? I match my underwear to the outerwear so unless it’s a dress, it’s not likely to be the same colour. For work I probably would wear same colour but more concerned about knicker line than identical fabric/trim.

Please say you’ll go and get fitted somewhere good first?!

And get some soak wash to hand wash them, they’ll last longer than going through the machine.

Jellybabie3 · 15/10/2018 06:49

Yeah I fall into the same category that I wear black knickers as I am usually in trousers and a bra that is suitable for whatever blouse/top I am in. I guess because I haven't had to do a total overhaul of my 'collection' before I hadnt given it so much thought.

My bras are obviously destined for the bin/charity. My pants are OK though so I hadnt thought about replacing them (albeit they are a multitude of colours)

Someone suggested on a diff thread to measure myself. I was a 34b pre baby then 38C for bursing bra (mothercare measure) and now measurements suggests I am a 34D

I have comedy knickers that make me laugh when I pick them out of the drawer, so for Christmas I have ones with Christmas puddings on, there is no matching bra for those Grin and ones with bears on or cats.

Sometimes I compliment colours of bra to knickers but I don't have any matching sets. Again, as someone who struggles to get a bra from a regular high street shop due to cup size I don't want to pay for the matching knickers.

I have been married almost 20 years and Dh is more interested in what is in the wrapping than the wrapping itself.

Does your Dh match his pants to his socks?
