AIBU?

Clairvoyant

AIBU to be worried about what a clairvoyant has said? Sad

My DM has just been to one, she is looking after our dog while we're moving house. The clairvoyant told her to lock the gates with bolts as nasty people are after our dog and if and when they come just hand her over as, again, they are not nice people.

I told my DP but he told me it's all fiction and the dogs fine. I really believe in clairvoyants so I'm literally shitting it right now!

I totally agree, even those who do believe there is something there understand that the seaside laugh is much more to do with entertainment.
I'd even go as far as to say some people have got a gift/ are more able to guess correctly, have a sixth sense, or gut feeling. I have myself and have had some awful experiences of dreaming about events before they happen.
I wouldn't join those people ripping others off, it's disgusting as it preys on the vulnerable.
I couldn't even say they don't earn their money, as they do go to huge extremes sometimes research the life of their pre booked clients, and of course they have expenses the same as any other self employed person, but it's just so unethical.

Ha Romany, the Petulengros have made a good living from woo over the years havent they? A tenner at Blackpool for a laugh is fine I guess but the dodgy personal readings and contacting those who have 'passed' is definitely beyond the pale.

Squishee

no it isn't, but do you know, they hate me talking about them, so I'm going to go public, ha ha. The name is Petulengro, don't ask, just google. Grin
How they can sleep at night I have no idea.
Gosh, I hope I don't get in trouble now, but I don't care as long as one more person realises that clairvoyancey doesn't exist.
Well, not at the level they suggest.

There is no such thing as a 'clairvoyant'.

If there were really people with the ability to have precognition - the ability to see into the future - the ability to see things that haven't happened yet - they would be the richest, most famous, most celebrated people on the planet.

They would hold the highest offices - every prime minister, president, and king would have his personal clairvoyant - on hand to tell him what the future holds, what decisions to make, how events will unfold.

Every company director would have their own highly esteemed company clairvoyant - to advise on how all commercial decisions and ventures would work out.

Every hospital, doctor, surgeon would have a clairvoyant on hand to advise whether it was worth doing that operation or treatment - whether the patient would survive, or whether it would just be waste of time.

These people with the ability to see the future, the future that hasn't happened yet - would be employed in every walk of life to advise and predict, at the highest level and held in the highest regard.

They are not. Because they cannot predict the future any more than my left foot can predict the future.

Scam artists, con merchants preying on vulnerable people daft enough to hand over good money to get told a load of bollocks.

OP you don't need to be a clairvoyant with powers of precognition to tell someone looking after a valuable pet, to 'lock the gates' to protect against the possibility of someone stealing it. That's just common sense. You have something valuable, you protect it. It's just that she's embellished with predictions of 'nasty people' turning up and all that other crap that you appear to have fallen for, hook, line and sinker.

If I told you the name and you googled it, you'd find hundreds of them.

Is it Madame Irma?

AAAGH not strange at all. They will have exchanged hundreds, thousands of words. A few resonate, noticed by these dodgers, then expanded on. You could do it, practice with a friend for a laugh. You'll be expert in no time. But you wont be a clairvoyant.

longwayoff · 09/10/2018 23:16

Charlatans and con artists the lot of them. A small expensive dog. A nasty person could steal it? Well what a surprise. And you've got to just hand dog over to the nasty person. Give them your bank details and car keys at the same time, I see it in the tea leaves that you are immensely connable, just the kind of person these vampires like to find. Dont give them credence.

On second thoughts, maybe your mum lost the dog and is really working hard on her cover story.

That is strange (the bones thing).

Report
RomanyRoots · 09/10/2018 22:47

Maybe she intends to try to steal the dog?
Or warning you because she knows it's an area with high crime rates for dog thieves?
We all think that the clairvoyant touches on something that nobody else would know, but the information is out there, you just don't know it.
I too think they are disgusting too.
I'm not sure about the entertainment variety type though. As long as the people know it's entertainment and not real.
One of my ancestors was a favourite of Queen Victoria. (Hark at me)

Thanks everyone Blush

I just think how the fuck do they know some of the stuff they say? She told my mom someone kept shouting the word "bones" which was her nickname that only my grandad called her!

Strange

Clairvoyants disgust me. They talk absolute crap and vulnerable people fall for it

This, the way they manipulate bereaved people makes me sick.

You’d get equally reliable advice from just asking your dog directly.

OP, I come from a long line of clairvoyants.
If I told you the name and you googled it, you'd find hundreds of them.
A bit of a coincidence all that family having the gift.
Put your faith in something better, something truthful, and honest.
I could make a living doing this, but I wouldn't and couldn't rip people off.

Report
GreenMeerkat · 09/10/2018 22:34

I would lock the gates anyway as there are people out there who steal dogs.

The fact that this has been said by a 'clairvoyant' makes it no more likely to happen. It's all bullshit.

Report
ComtesseDeSpair · 09/10/2018 22:33

If she can predict that nasty people are after your dog, why can’t she predict the specifics of the theft? Like the names of these people, when they’ll arrive, how they’ll try to take the dog? In this way, the powers of clairvoyancy always seem so inadequate.

If she is able to accurately predict the future, I'm assuming she's living the life of riley having correctly predicted the lottery numbers on at least one occasion and is just doing a bit of voyanting on the side to keep her hand in Hmm.
Your dogs will be fine, this woman knows no more about future events than anyone else.

She got the colour of the dog and said she's small. The breed of dog is an average size but mine is a pocket. She's worth quite a bit of money too so it's not unbelievable???? I don't know Blush

Doesn’t the world have enough real quantifiable problems, without inventing more?

By the way, your DM is BU for telling you what her woo friend said, given you’re in the middle of a stressful house move. Not nice, not helpful.

Does the clairvoyant know where your mum lives and does she like the breed of dog you have? Because that might give you your answer!
