AIBU?

To think microwave scrambled eggs are minging?

So the baby is napping and toddler is out with his grandad for a few hours. I've just had scrambled eggs cooked in butter on the hob, served on hot buttered wholemeal toast. It was absolutely delicious!

However, when i was younger and my mum used to make scrambled eggs she always did them in the microwave..so dry and rubbery! Turned me off scrambled eggs for years!

So AIBU in thinking that eggs should not be scrambled in the microwave? Any other cooking 'methods' people use that are just 'wrong'? One of my friends cooks pasta in the slow cooker... it must be so overcooked! It hardly takes long on the hob!

Just as an aside, to clean an egg pan you need to use cold soapy water, not hot

They absolutely reek though. A guy at work makes scrambled egg in the microwave and the smell makes me heave!

With the amount of work required to make them palatable, you may as well use the hob.

The secret is to undercook them slightly. That way they don't go rubbery.

I LOVE microwave scrambled eggs! Your DM seems to have overcooked them. Just don't add milk if you're doing it in the microwave.

My microwaved scrambled eggs are fantastic! Big knob of butter, lots of stirring, they come out creamy and delicious.

I much prefer scrambled eggs on the hob but if I want eggs for breakfast in work then microwaving them is an OK method if done right.

Otherwise I'm stuck with whatever the hell the canteen does to the eggs...I didn't know it was possible to make eggs taste so bad!

Three rashers of bacon and two cracked eggs on a dinner plate. Prick the egg yolks and then microwave until cooked. Best lazy breakfast / comfort food ever!

I don't know how old you are OP but if you grew up in the 80s/90s then I feel like everyone was obsessed with cooking things in microwaves

So true!

YANBU. Much easier to cook on the hob, rather than faffing about taking the bowl out the microwave to stir. Porridge should be cooked on the hob too.
And non-stick pans are not hard to clean.

Completely agree to the extent my DM also used to microwave them and I grew up believing scrambled eggs were rancid and rubbery. Then I left home and had a flat mate cook proper scrambled eggs for me... wow, I never looked back Grin.

Did you tell your Mum her microwave scrambled eggs were minging before you showed her the one true path?

I recall Michel Roux Jr on tv interviewing potential young trainees. None could cook until he asked a young woman her favourite meal "scrambled eggs". M Roux face lights up with joy 'and can you cook this for me now?' "Of course." Looks around kitchen "where's the microwave?" M Roux a picture of despair.

It's very easy to overcook scrambled eggs in the microwave, however if done properly they are just as nice as those done in a pan.

I am currently eating microwaved scrambled eggs with spinach butter and cheese and they are lovely. I stir mine every 15-20 seconds and they turn out fine every time Smile

Pan scrambled eggs are sooooo much better. But microwave scramble is a lot easier. Trade off really.

My Scrambled egg on the hob always turns out like omelette, and not even nice omelette, service station breakfast omelette.

Microwave with butter and a dash of milk, low power, stir every thirty seconds, and they are fluffy and delicious and creamy.

Most restaurants pre poach their eggs, and keep them in chilled water until needed

I think most things taste better when cooked the “proper” way tbh, Microwaves cooking is only ok if in a rush

Porridge
Eggs
Cake (yes I know people that make microwave mug cakes)
Even ready meals taste better when oven cooked than microwaved

But yes completely agree about scrambled eggs they are wonderful when done on the hob with butter and a dash of cream plus lots of black pepper and a pinch of sea salt 😋
