AIBU?

Is it ethically wrong to force my cat to massage me?

I put a little yoghurt on my hand because I wanted my cat to lick it off because it feels cool.
But that got me thinking - isnt that ethically dubious?

It's a bit odd, I thought you meant when they walk on you or do that thing with their front paws, but my cat licks me when I'm not looking or when I'm sleeping and no matter how many times I tell him off I can't stop him. At least he doesn't try to suckle my earlobe when I'm asleep much anymore (I used to have to sleep in earrings to deter him and it wasn't always successful). I guess as long as your cat doesn't mind it's ok...

As last me as it’s only your hand I think you’re ok...

Tangled59 · 18/06/2018 23:22

@FASH84
Ive tried to force him to walk on me before but I cant find a way of making him do it short of lining up dreamies along my body Grin

After all, your cat probably head boops you when he/she wants a clappie

Ribrabrob · 18/06/2018 23:33

I read massage as message and it made me giggle Grin

Singlenotsingle · 18/06/2018 23:39

What's a clappie?

Tangled59 · 18/06/2018 23:41

Yeah WTF is a clappie?!

Clapping means stroking a cat, mainly in Scotland. When I first met my DH he said he was clapping the cat I thought he meant he was giving it a round of applause.

Somehow I can't see cats turning down Rapturous Applause if that's on offer, the collective memory of being worshipped as gods is strong...

nocoolnamesleft · 19/06/2018 00:58

I am confused. How on earth could anyone actually force a cat to do anything against their will? Encourage? Yes. Bribe? Yes. Force? Hahaha.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/06/2018 01:12

I read it as message too and had a vision of you trying to show your cat how to text. Grin

Not sure it you know, OP, some cats are lactose intolerant, any milk or milk product isn't good for them.

I've stumbled onto the weird side of mumsnet...

busybarbara · 19/06/2018 16:50

Hello, I think it might finally be time for you to get a boyfriend.

Notevilstepmother · 19/06/2018 17:19

If the cat considers it unethical I’m sure they will let you know. They have sharp claws. 🐈

lardymclardy · 19/06/2018 17:33

I wish mine wouldn't massage me - right on the stomach. Yes I know you don't know who the Pilsbury Doughman is cat but you are not making me feel good!!

Hand licking is weird. Cat's tongues are weird.

caoraich · 19/06/2018 21:06

I think this is entirely reasonable.

I'm pregnant and have suddenly entered the world of no longer being able to stretch my leg up to scratch my foot and bending right down makes me feel like a dizzy weeble.

I may have recently tipped out some Lick-e-Lix onto a plate and dipped my toe in it to induce my cat to inadvertently lick - with scratchy tongue- said itchy toe.

I don't feel bad about this as she generally sneaks into the bedroom to lick my toes at 3am anyway....

World's gone mad.

@spanishwife - grab your drink and I will see you outside...not the dark side..

speakout · 20/06/2018 07:24

When we got our first kitten DD asked OH to clap the cat.

OH started clapping his hands together.

OH is English, I am Scottish- we live in Scotland.
