To be excited about the World Cup starting!

I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

I don't like football in general but I always watch the world cup :)

Andrewofgg · 14/06/2018 08:38

No, not really.

I never thought I’d say this but tonight I hope the Saudis won. One smirk removed from one dictator’s face.

And no doubt transferred to another dictator’s face but he won’t be on television round the world!

user1471517900 · 14/06/2018 08:44

An exciting 3-3 draw would be a great way to kick off.

(It will no doubt finish 0-0 now).

But yes it would be nice to see an unhappy Putin.

YANBU it's the only time I enjoy watching football.

I may or may not have been listening to World in Motion this morning...Blush

Have you started adding an extra syllable to the word "England"?

OP posts:
MissionItsPossible · 14/06/2018 09:37

Well I don't think it should have gone to Russia and even more shocked about the next one being in Qatar but no doubt I'll be swept up in World Cup fever with the rest of the country.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/06/2018 09:43

Wonder how long the England flags will stay up this time... Long as if we get past the group stage won't be to bad. That and don't underestimate whatever team drawn again next.

Do love it though.

skippy67 · 14/06/2018 09:45

YANBU! So excited!!

Stephisaur · 14/06/2018 09:45

We have a sweepstake at work, so I'm very excited. Go Belgium ;)

I actually don't mind the World Cup, my main objection to it is everyone's insistence that this is the year England will win.

We won't, we're a bit shit Grin

DH will be supporting Spain and Argentina as he's an avid Barcelona fan :)

Hillarious · 14/06/2018 09:46

Got DC1 and DC2 back from University, so looking forward to watching the World Cup with them and DC3. Just hoping it doesn't clash too often with Love Island! That's the early summer sorted.

coolwalking · 14/06/2018 09:46

Can't wait! I'm supporting Iceland as Scotland didn't qualify! And England of course.

StripLynchet · 14/06/2018 09:49

This is the first time since I was 8 that I have felt no excitement about the world cup. The corruption has ruined it. Even collecting panini stickers has been spoilt by greed.

Liesmyparentstoldme · 14/06/2018 09:53

YANBU I'm never interested in the club games. However, when the world cups on. I get so into football! I watch loads of random matches and LOVE it Grin

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/06/2018 09:57

Love the opening and closing ceremonies as well.. Euros with David guetta was intresting.. Lots of buttons!

If/when England go out hopefully it's with pride rather then a flop.

Spain situation is a bit crazy

IamaBluebird · 14/06/2018 10:01

I'll enjoy the world cup. More importantly the fixture list was released this morning.I am planning my aways already .

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 14/06/2018 10:06

I'm not a big football fan but I do watch the World Cup.

Fond memories of watching 1996 World Cup in lots of bars, cafes and fairs on holiday.

LeahJack · 14/06/2018 10:17

I never thought I’d say this but tonight I hope the Saudis won. One smirk removed from one dictator’s face.

Ah yes. Those Saudis. Well known for their human rights record and commitment to democracy who have never exerted a malign influence to world events or tried to manipulate other countries.

Yes, that’ll stick it to Vlad.

EspressoPatronum · 14/06/2018 10:18

Yabu. Football is so boring.

😁

LeahJack · 14/06/2018 10:19

I’m looking forward to it but I think there is going to be a lot of trouble with Russian ultras and the police brutally suppressing them. And they are going to turn that on supporters of other countries too, to deflect blame.

Very different from the lovely atmosphere at Euro 96. At least we had the good grace only to riot when we lost instead of fighting for the sake of it.

A4710Rider · 14/06/2018 10:21

Yes, that’ll stick it to Vlad

Yeah, me too, well said.

derxa · 14/06/2018 10:54

I'll be watching on mute. I love football but the England fever gets me in a rage every time. I won't be supporting England no matter who they're playing. Thank goodness I've got that off my chest!

How very strange.

Sorry to burst those fond memories above, but 1996 didn't have a World Cup :-).

Assume you meant Euros.

A4710Rider · 14/06/2018 11:00

Euro 96, best football tournament, ever. :)

WhiteHartLane · 14/06/2018 11:03

Yes, love all football and will be watching whenever I'm not working hopefully. Not seen many flags etc round my way though.
