get changed in the staff room in front of everyone? I mean, if you want to come into work in your own clothes, you should at least get changed in the toilets or something?

What kind of work do you do?

This would be heavily frowned upon in one of my jobs but totally normal in my other job (LOL!)

UpstartCrow · 26/04/2018 10:24

Yanbu, I've had side eye for taking my shoes off and showing my socks.

PearlClutchingOldie · 26/04/2018 10:26

Its a big furniture shop. We have a staff room which has our lockers in, but nowhere specifically to get changed, unless you use the loos

Steeley113 · 26/04/2018 10:27

Have you posted this before? TBH it’s pretty normal in our staff room

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 10:28

depends what kind of job i guess - if its one that requires a uniform of sorts then getting changed is the normal thing to do, but, i agree, you would go into the loos ( as a woman as you have more bits to hide!) a man might get away with just changing the top quickly i guess.
I have friends that commute to work and they take a change of top and shoes ( wear pumps or trainers for the train , then change them in the office) and my old manager always had a dress hanging up all ready and pressed to change into - but would go into the toilet or disabled loo to change it obviously. all depends. are they naturally a bit of a show off maybe?

PearlClutchingOldie · 26/04/2018 10:28

No, I've not posed it before. Where do you work @Steeley113 ?

Depends how much disrobing "getting changed" involves, how discretely it's done (by the lockers with your back to everyone or in the middle of the room), the nature of the room - locker room with a few chairs as an afterthought, or nice relaxation area with a few lockers.

TheDrinksAreOnMe · 26/04/2018 10:31

What is it about it that bothers you so much? (Genuine question)

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 10:33

Nobody would want to see any of my bits, i even hate looking at them myself. are they new? dont really care or just assumed this is acceptable? which bits are they flashing?

PearlClutchingOldie · 26/04/2018 10:34

Down to skivvies. She doesn't walk around like it, but isn't particularly discreet either

Does your partner work there too?

No. Why?

The80sweregreat · 26/04/2018 10:42

I bet she has a great body or is really thin, most people carrying timber like me would not do this at all. never. but we;re all different.

QuimReaper · 26/04/2018 10:44

They do it all the time on Grey's Anatomy Grin

spidey66 · 26/04/2018 10:45

I think it's normal if you wear a uniform which you don't want to wear en route, or if you're a cyclist and you're wearing smelly lycra.

mummyretired · 26/04/2018 10:45

Are you 'all girls together' or were there men around? If you do a lot of gym or similar it's easy to get in the habit of changing while carrying on a conversation with your friends, and also considered antisocial to hog a toilet cubicle.

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/04/2018 10:46

Skivvies?? Underwear? In that case, she's not particularly showing anything, is she? In that case it comes down to the nature of the room. If the rest of you are sitting around comfortable with cups of coffee with her in full view, yes a bit off. If it's the sort of room where you spend the minimal possible time in, I don't see the problem.

HannahHut · 26/04/2018 10:48

There's a guy in work who does this. Staff room with lockers, a toilet for each sex with extra room for hooks and changing in them.

Instead of waiting for the toilet to be free or going to a customer stall he changes in the staffroom where everyone is eating. So weird.

TheDrinksAreOnMe · 26/04/2018 10:49

We are surrounded by women in bikinis and underwear in the media, when we shop, but god forbid someone appears in front of you in real life wearing undies.

PearlClutchingOldie · 26/04/2018 10:50

Men too. Not just women in there!
Skivvies?? Underwear? In that case, she's not particularly showing anything, is she?
Yes, underwear. I know she's not naked, but surely you don't strip off to your underwear in front of people?

Getting changed in work loos is generally cramped and sometimes messy and smelly. I've always felt guilty too about taking up a loo just to get changed when someone might be dying for the actual loo and hopping up and down outside!

If your work requires you to wear a uniform they should provide a proper changing area. I'd complain to management, but not about this
individual – about the lack of facilities.

adaline · 26/04/2018 10:54

Eh, it's fairly normal where I work. We only have one small toilet that everyone has to share (there's only ten of us, and only 5-6 of us in at any one time) so you often don't have much choice.

It doesn't bother me at all. I don't change at work because I drive in, but one of my colleagues rides a bike in, so he changes out of his leathers etc at work, others walk in and will change out of waterproofs and dirty boots into more work-appropriate attire.

I'm not remotely bothered about seeing other people in various states of undress though. They're just getting changed, not doing anything sinister.

I'm not sure whether or not yabu. I think if she's happy enough and not flaunting her nakedness then let her be. I wouldn't change infront of anyone but then again in my industry you tend to need to get changed at home then go to work.

CuntPuffin · 26/04/2018 10:55

I had a colleague who used to change out of his cycling gear into his office clothes in his office. With the door wide open. His office was by the main door off the stairwell. This building had a shower/changing room. He was just an exhibitionist.

LucyEvans26 · 26/04/2018 10:56

this made me chuckle- we wear scrubs in work so get changed when were here- my boss walks around in her nickers and long socks for ages before she puts her trousers on! We also have a 3 ring policy in work so if im getting changed and the phones are ringing ill be sat there in my bra on the phone to patients! When no1s around but still lol- don't really know why youre offended just leave the room if you don't like it!
