AIBU?

To sneak snacks into the cinema

I haven't been on MN in ages so don't know if this has been done recently. Just wondering if you think it's ok to take your own snacks to the cinema? I've never done it before but we are moving house next week so things are a little tight but I promised the girls a cinema trip during half term. Could do without the £10 for a popcorn and fruitshoot. They don't drink juice anyway so was thinking of taking their water bottles and stopping by the shop for a £1 bag of popcorn and some chocolate buttons, AIBU?

YWBU to not take snacks. I always take drinks and a bag of popcorn

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 20/02/2018 18:41

Yanbu. I do it all the time and no one bats an eyelid.

Justanotherzombie · 20/02/2018 18:41

I think many people bring snacks to the cinema. I wouldn't even hide it.

RitasEducation · 20/02/2018 18:41

Yes I would do it.

It can be very expensive.

C0untDucku1a · 20/02/2018 18:42

Vue allows snacks now. Not hot drinks though.

Dragonglass · 20/02/2018 18:42

What cinema is it? Vue allow you to take in snacks so no sneaking needed. I see nothing wrong with sneaking a bit in if needed though.

TidyDancer · 20/02/2018 18:42

Yanbu imo. I get a pick and mix before I go and take my own water bottle in. No way am I paying extortionate prices for sweets and water.

throwcushions · 20/02/2018 18:43

Who doesn't do this? I always go armed with bottles of water and a bag of sweets. I do buy popcorn though.

Deshasafraisy · 20/02/2018 18:43

I go to M&S and stock up on lovely things to take into the cinema every time.

HarrietKettle · 20/02/2018 18:43

I take cheese and wine.

AnotherDunroamin · 20/02/2018 18:43

We almost never buy the cinema snacks. Not just because they're extortionate but because we make a lot of popcorn at home so it doesn't feel like a treat. We usually take something healthy like grapes plus a treat like chocolate buttons or m&ms. And I carry water everywhere I go so always have that with me anyway. Don't think it's unreasonable at all!

mumonashoestring · 20/02/2018 18:44

Our local Odeon do a kids snack box - a child sized popcorn, either a Capri sun or bottled water, and a small bag of haribo for £1.99, might be worth checking if your local cinema does something similar. Otherwise YA absolutely NBU - cinema prices can be ridiculous.

Deshasafraisy · 20/02/2018 18:44

I bought popcorn at the cinema recently as if left it too late for M&S and the girl practically threw it at me so half of it landed on the floor, it was filthy behind the counter and the staff were all grumpy and rude. Never again.

LizzieSiddal · 20/02/2018 18:45

I go to the National Theatre Live shows which are broadcast at the Odeon. People bring hampers for the interval!! . They got out wine, nibbles and various snacks

No one bats an eyelid Grin

Cupoteap · 20/02/2018 18:46

It's not an issue to take your own snacks

DaphneFanshaw · 20/02/2018 18:46

Do you really Harriet? I have been tempted to do that. I would definitely take a few beers in and maybe a pizza.

Pebbles16 · 20/02/2018 18:46

As long as your snacks aren't noisy. If they are then, generally, YABVU!

Northernknickers · 20/02/2018 18:46

Why do you think you have to 'sneak' them in? Never been to a cinema that didn't allow this.

Smellylittleorange · 20/02/2018 18:46

Ive been known to foil wrap bags of microwave popcorn to keep them warm on journey to cinema. If you can get to poundland it can be a veritable feast!

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 20/02/2018 18:46

Even though I know it's hugely overpriced I do buy the hot popcorn and get half sweet half salted. A bag from the shop isn't the same. But everything else is from wilkos or pound shop.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 20/02/2018 18:46

Bring snacks! I worked in a cinema and sent people to Wilkos to buy pick and mix as it was next door and about 1/3 of the price...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/02/2018 18:47

I somehow manage without food for a couple of hours.
