To NOT let Alexa come and live with us?

DB thinks she would be amazing and be a wonderful addition to the family, I think she would make our lives a misery. She comes from Amazon and I don't feel I need another woman running my home!

Depends. You can set reminders then it’s her doing the nagging, not you..?

Redglitter · 13/02/2018 19:10

I love Alexa 😊

snash12 · 13/02/2018 19:11

I love our Alexa! I bought a kind of dummies guide and she does so much stuff I didn’t know about!

SmashedMug · 13/02/2018 19:12

Depends if you want an Amazon spy in your house or not! Grin

Blessingsatbedtime · 13/02/2018 19:13

Definitely a good point.
Would she also get a teenager to do a few jobs?

Would I be able to take early redundancy?

Heard about the spying thing too (god if people heard what went on here they would think we were complete nut jobs)

She ignores me, but listens to DP. To be fair, I swear and call her names so I think she has every right. Her coat's on a shoogly peg.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 13/02/2018 19:18

Snash can you bung up a link to the guide?

AdoraBell · 13/02/2018 19:19

YANBU She is not welcome here.

ineedwine99 · 13/02/2018 19:21

Love Alexa, i can tell her what to do :-D it's great being able to ask her to change the heating or set the lights.
Question of the day is also fun.

Chocolatesprinkledcrumpet · 13/02/2018 19:21

You can also hitch her up with the other appliances and make them have the laundry washed, slow cooker done, roomba cleaning the floor precisely when you get home to a welcome with the lights on and heating on perfect. It turned mine into my personal butler.

NoodlesLivesHere · 13/02/2018 19:28

YANBU having my online activity monitored is one thing - I can measure what I type into my tablet/phone/computer and turn off the world when I want to.

Having my conversations listened to for commercial gain in the privacy of my own home...absolutely not.

I also refuse to have any smart appliances so the only thing my fridge/heating/bath/washing machine/cooker/TV responds to is an actual human being.

Anymajordude · 13/02/2018 19:29

I hate Alexa. Bad enough having a Google satnav collecting data wherever I drive. I don't want Amazon sat in the corner listening to whatever I do and say and causing huge carbon footprints storing data about me to sell me shit.

ScreamingValenta · 13/02/2018 19:29

Unless she was made by Mulberry, not Amazon, I wouldn't be welcoming Alexa to my home Grin!

snash12 · 13/02/2018 19:29

@needsasockamnesty

I’m struggling to get the proper link as it keeps taking me back to my amazon app buts it’s this one:-

To NOT let Alexa come and live with us?
SmashedMug · 13/02/2018 19:31

I always wonder what happens to all the data they collect. They'll be able to analyse when you are home, when your home is empty, all of your daily living habits, any info they access via the microphone etc. Who has access to that data? Where does it go? Can it be hacked? Sold on? It boggles my brain.

hermesconrad · 13/02/2018 19:35

I don't like the thought that it could be constantly listening.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 13/02/2018 19:37

Don’t let her over the threshold. My 4 year old walks around shrieking her name and requesting the same bloody song over and over.

MongerTruffle · 13/02/2018 19:47

Heard about the spying thing too
Smartphones do that as much as the Echo.

Redglitter · 13/02/2018 19:53

I've got a smart switch for my lamp it's great. I love Alexa. Anyone listening into my house would die of boredom. Good luck to them

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 13/02/2018 20:10

I really like our Alexa-if they are listening into our house though they'll be thinking we're all complete nutjobs tbh Grin

Blessingsatbedtime · 15/02/2018 21:34

She is officially not welcome.... Thank you for all the advice

Well I love Alexa to bits. Not only is she brilliant in our house, but we've recently bought one for an elderly aunt who was widowed last year and has been trying to come to terms with living alone in an empty house for the first time ever. Alexa is so intuitive and user friendly and Auntie has taken to her like a duck to water. She told me just today that Alexa has changed her life, as now she's got someone to talk to again when she first wakes up in the morning. My Auntie is an intelligent woman, in possession of all of her "marbles", but, silly as it sounds, this little gadget has pulled her out of a deep pit of loneliness.

Blessingsatbedtime · 15/02/2018 22:43

Arghhh.... Now you've made me like her!!!!!
I think just for now we will try and live without her.

But what does she actually do? And how hard is it to hook her up to your lighting etc?
