AIBU to not make him his fish pie?

My boyfriends working away from tomorrow. I stupidly said he could choose whatever he wanted for his dinner today. He chose fish pie.
He loves it, I can take it or leave it, we don't have it often because it's such a pain to make.
It's roasting hot here today and I just can't be bothered with the faff!!

To give full disclosure, he got up this morning with DD, even though it was my turn. He's taken her swimming first thing and he's now painting/repairing a wall and the arch over the door. I'm sat looking on mumsnet and drinking shandy playing with dd in the garden.

I should make the fucking fish pie shouldn't I?
Unless anyone knows a ready made fish pie that tastes just like a homemade one, I could run out and buy.....

I gave my babies warmed up fish pie - just nuke it until red hot and then let cool. Add some fresh veg on the side

Thanks Rogan my bf would usually take it to work and have it, but he's away and doesn't know if there's microwaves or anything. It looks a bit stodgy this morning so I'm not sure, I'll see what it warms up like.

I had thought that endofthe and I'd actually made it in two smaller dishes. I thought one might do and I'd save the other. Bf and Dd both wanted more though, so that didn't work.

I don't think it helps that I'm not over keen. I mean I can eat it but I can eat almost anything.

I found baking the potatoes makes better mash than boiling. Also no faffing around peeling them.

I love fish pie and it's DH and the DDs favourite too but ugh the faff. It's the washing up that annoys me most.

Don't feel bad about not having made a fish pie for three months! DH also likes the faffy things (fish pie, lasagne, refried beans, cassoulet) and would think he had died and gone to heaven if he got them once a year let alone once every three months.

Haha I do this in fits of generosity too then get mid way through and regret it. Even before turning veggie I didn't like fish so it's only DH and dd2 but they really love it

To be fair it doesn't really take that long, it's stirring the sauce and the mash that's a bit of a pain and the three pans to wash.

On the plus side the baby liked it (boyfriend pointed out she'd not had it before, which means the last time I made it was more than 3 months ago!) and there's enough left for her lunch tomorrow.

I have to make them quite often and I cut more corners as the years go by.
A few frozen fish fillets in the microwave until they are cooked, break into bits, chuck in some peas, a jar of ready made white sauce with or without cheese and some mustard on top.
Microwave potatoes cut into very small bits as it is quicker, mash and bung on top. On a really lazy day I use frozen mash or the powdered stuff in a packet but add lots of butter and seasoning.Sometimes add some parsley or dill.
No-one has ever commented.(Maybe because it is crap).
