Very loud neighbours and my toddler...what time is it quieter time..

Very simple, sitting here trying to get an overly tired and hot toddler and baby to sleep and neighbours being so noisey, not just normal noise but screeching, shouting and screaming having water fights etc. I've closed the windows in an attempt to block it out, I know it's hot and everyone's enjoying the weather and I really don't begrudge them that, but what time would it be ok to ask them to just be a tad quieter, Assuming I continue this battle with dd and ds! They're too tired to be awake and too much screaming to go to sleep. If there was a quiet ten minutes they'd go, then they could scream away and they wouldn't wake but right now I've not got a chance! I do love my neighbours but I'm almost crying with exhaustion already.....

I had a similar situation a few years ago when my living arrangements were very different. Myself, my husband and our then 2yo daughter slept jn my parents loft room. Had a large window that cold fully open and gave a lovely view of our garden and next doors too. They have 3 teenagers who would party into the early hours.

To cut to the chase my husband had enough one night. Opened the window as far as he could, screamed at them to shut up or he'd tell the parents.

Didn't hear from them after that!

Babies and toddlers will sleep through any noise if they are tired enough! they probably feel they are missing out on the fun other people are having

I sympathise. DD keeps waking up coughing, I am knackered and want an early night, and the neighbours have got friends round and are ENJOYING THEMSELVES in their garden, the bloody cheek of it! They're talking, laughing, listening to music quietly and the kids are bouncing on the trampoline. They're not doing anything unreasonable at all, but it's still a nuisance. The visitors seem to have a child with them, so I'm hoping they'll have to go home soon.

Dd now gone to sleep, just ds. I'll collapse as soon as they're down, I don't think I'd wake if a marching band passes, but if one of the children move... well I'm up like a shot sigh this will pass.... (say to myself repeatedly)

Agree with VerityHabitat about the fan. My neighbours have been noisy buggers too, and there's no way I'd sleep through it all. My DS on the other hand will sleep through it all!

I understand as I hate summer evenings when everyone is in their gardens but I do know Iabu so don't complain. As pp suggested an electric fan is a good noise blocker. I listen to white noise regularly as I'm a terrible sleeper. Good luck.

A fan on high speed can really help to drown out the noise.

I wouldn't ask until at least 10 either.

I feel your pain ! Do you know them well enough to pop over and explain the situation and ask for a ten min window of quiet for them to drop off ?!! Or can you move kids to another bedroom in your house to drop off away from noise ? I love the heat except for when it's time to get the kids to sleep !!!

It's not really late. I don't think you can say anything for a while yet. Although it depends how well you get on with them. If you know then well I'd ask.

It's annoying but on nice summer evenings you can't expect the world to come to a standstill early evening for children who can't sleep
