To Go Off Sick

My boss is a bully. I've been patronised in front of colleagues (and she's done the same with colleagues I sit with), she's told me I'm a negative person, she perceives that everything I say to her is negative so I feel like I'm constantly having to explain myself to her, and the thought of dealing with her daily is making me physically ill.

I've been diagnosed with panic disorder since she became my manager, had time off with anxiety (although it coincided with my partner being off as a family member died and I was accused of taking time off to be with him), and feel sufficiently worried about my work record to not take any more time off to sort myself out as I am now at verbal warning stage with my 14 day absence due to work-related stress (although my colleague was off for 6 weeks and wasn't placed under the same restrictions which are a warning after 11 days off)

I can't square this with her directly as she is incredibly difficult to deal with, but I don't know what else to do. It's affecting my home life and relationships to a serious degree and there are very few jobs I can apply for where I live (or close to)

If there's someone you can report her behavior to then you need to do it and I'd do it today if you can. What do other members of staff think of her behavior towards you and them?has anyone else reported her?

Whilst this is getting sorted I'd honestly start looking for a new job as well.I know you shouldn't have to and hopefully someone from work will sort out her behavior but if working there is making you feel physically ill and is affecting your relationship and home life I think it would be well worth looking for somewhere else to work.

Good luck OP Flowers

You need to raise a grievance.

Warnings for sickness are allowed, my large company has full procedures for doing so. But they should be fairly applied across the board

I understand that your situation feels impossible, but what would more time off sick actually achieve? You'd dread going back even more than you dread going in every day, it (unfairly) gives them ammunition to use against you, and doesn't address the root cause of the problem.

You need some back up from your organisation.....if you actually are sick, then yes, of course you're entitled to go off sick.....but that isn't a solution to the problem.

Speak to HR, explain the situation clearly, and tell them what is happening, with examples. The better prepared your are the stronger your case will be.

Just going off sick but not tackling the problem, will not make it go away

Good luck!

Can you receive a warning for being off sick with a doctor's note?

I think you need to find someone else at work to seek advice and support from. Is there a union? HR department?

Is there an hr department where you work? How big is the organisation?
