AIBU?

To not like Star Wars

I watched the original when it was released in 1977 when I was 7, then tried again when it was re released in cinemas when I was in my 20s, and have tried no end of times watching the DVD with my teenage daughters and husband who love it. I love Guardians of the Galaxy and really love films in general...... What am I missing, and am I the only one?

Shock YABU.

On another note, Jaws the book is very good says my 13yr old self, which was the last time I read it But from memory, it was far better tan the film. I particularly liked that there was an episode in Fawlty Towers where Sybil was in bed reading a magazine and eating chocolates, and Basil was reading Jaws Grin

YANBU. It is absolute dross, which has not dated well. It's all the really retro helmets that crack me up. I know for some people it's art of the charm, but it just strikes me as cheap and nasty.

Han Solo - isn't that just a euphemism for a wank?
Blush

As for Star Wars, I neither love nor hate it. Had an ex who was obsessed with it. He had all the tiny little action figures. The three original films were ok, but the one with Jar Jar Binks in was incomprehensible rubbish.
Couldn't give a hoot about the new ones coming out.

But I love the old Star Trek with The Shat. Not too fussed about TNG although I liked Voyager which was more in keeping with the original series.

Love all the marvel films too especially GOTG.

Yes, I liked the first when i I was young. Then I grew up and liked other stuff and it didn't appeal to me anymore.

I also don't get: LOTR, HP, those Wolverine films (name escapes me, sorry, it's 2:15 here and I can't sleep!).

Bizarrely I love Star Trek, especially the original and the NG.

Not liking many of these films makes me wonder how I can get so much enjoyment out of The Big Bang Theory Grin

I cannot even begin to understand when a person declares that they don't like Star Wars. Especially the 'real' ones (as in those released first)
YABU
What's not to like?
Ultimate baddie in Darth Vader
Kick ass Princess
Age old story of good vs evil
And the never bettered, ultimate heartthrob that is Handsome Solo

Yanbu. I dislike LOTR and people seem to vilify me for that. It's TEDIOUS!

Not liking Star Wars? TOTALLY unreasonable!!! WinkSmile

Not interested at all. I've tried to watch them but find them all so boring. DH is so excited about the new one coming out and I've promised I'll go to the cinema with him.

The worse was when I bought him tickets to One Man Star Wars for one birthday, I had no idea what was going on and nearly fell asleep. He was so excited and loved it.

They were good films for their time, and they gave rise to probably the best and most memorable villain ever, even if he turned out to be the henchman, not the actual villain. I doubt they would be much talked about now had they been released in, say, the mid 90s.

Squillions of people dislike Star Wars.

Me included.

In a word.. Yes... you are being unreasonable. Star Wars is my DS's life & when you combine it with Lego there's some kind of cosmic explosion (in his little 5 year old life)

Nope, not at all unreasonable. I like the original trilogy, but don't think they deserve the years of obsession they have generated. Then again, I think Harry Potter (the Star Wars of my generation), is also very, very overrated.

Saw Star Wars at the cinema aged about 10. Bored the pants off me. Tried The Return of the Jedi about 20 years later - ditto. Also ditto the one with Jar Jar Binks. Gave up after that.

I have never seen any of the Star Wars films.
Ever.

I like Star Trek though.

A bit.

But only the William Shatner early days ones

Yes elQuint, I've just read Jaws on holiday...... It's different from the film, but just as brilliant. Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfus were fantastic, and I've always had a crush on Roy Scheider! In a different league to Star Wars altogether.

I have never seen any of the films all the way through. Sci Fi is not up my street, and it all seems very overrated.

Han Solo is the only reason that I love Star Wars.

Sky blue flares - that's too funny GrinGrin

Jaws rocks! The blood, the fear, the music, the USS Indianapolis story, the Robert Shaw/Richard Dreyfus scar-off was awesome! They truly hated each other in real life.

Durr-dum durr-dum

I am grateful to Star Wars though - without it we'd never have had Star Wards Lego. I yearn for a Lego Death Star.

Thanks Trionic.. I'll see which version we have.... My husband has also told me about the remastered versions not being very good. I think the girls and my husband are going to try to get opening night tickets.... They're so excited that I must persevere! I agree, its definitely better to try and see films you like in the cinema..... I hope you get to see the original sometime there.
