AIBU?

To think that being the Duchess of Cambridge is a full time job in itself.

It takes a lot of time and effort to look good.

Today I did 3 loads of washing, cleaned, hooved the house, washed the floor, made lunch for 4 people, cleared up and sorted out the recycling, mopped the floors and went food shopping. Tonight I will feed 5 people, do 3 loads of ironing, sort out the laundry and finally go to bed at midnight. I haven't even sorted out the garden, cutting back the hedgerows, etc etc etc. I don't even have a paid job - I used to work full time and quite frankly, when I did, the house was chaos.

Today I look a frazzled mess as my hair has gone frizzy in the humidity. I smell a bit even though I had a shower this morning and my clothes are dusty after emptying stuff into the bin and dusting the crap off the window sills etc.

I look like shit.

I haven't time to go to the gym for 3 hours. I haven't the stamina to starve myself so that I'm a size 0. I don't have 2 hours to preen my hair nor make sure my make up is perfect. I wear crap clothes because I don't seem to have the time nor money to go clothes shopping for myself as all the money goes straight out on the kids clothes//activities/food/petrol blah blah blah.

This isn't a moan, really. I would love to have servants staff to clean my house and do my garden, fill the car up with petrol and valet it whilst I lounge about painting my finger nails.

If I gave up all the above and focussed on myself full time, AIBU to think that I too would like like Kate and look permanently perfectly groomed?

Does she need to win anything? Part of the deal is that she will face scrutiny by some papers - it's a trade off for being funded extremely well for doing very little.

IIRC, she chose not to colour her hair while pregnant. And got media attention for having grey roots. What do you think she should have done, exactly, in order to win that one?

Of course Royal Duties are work. I'm in no way a royalist too.

The joys of full time working - trying to fit in an hairdresser appointment is really difficult, I totally get that.

She recently went out with her grey showing and the Daily Mail were very cruel. She can't win in that way as some people want to tear others down.

I think it really depends on your personality. Some of the busiest people I know achieve a huge amount, whilst others who don't work and have nannies and cleaners seem to do virtually nothing with their time.

Don't they always say 'if you want something done, ask someone who's busy'.

I do look pretty good (even if i say so myself Grin) considering i don't have anyone hounding me for photos and being skint half the time. And a house load of people to look after. And an 18 month old baby. And no staff. And being the wrong side of 40.

If i was the DoCs age, had her money, plus the motivation of knowing that the press were lurking outside the front door every day, i would 100% manage to look that fabulous every day as well as working.

(are we saying royal duties are work?)

Duchess Do-little. Grin I find the royals quite entertaining. Dont think they are amazing, but they are not so bad.

Meh. Still wouldn't swap lives with her, even though I'm poor and look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. No personal freedom, always wary of your privacy getting ripped away, having to conform to royal protocol all the time.

Why do people devote so much time to even thinking about her let alone commenting on her looks or her twee pushing of an enormous SC pram. It's all so dull!

SirChenjin · 21/07/2015 17:02

I don't think it is - she wouldn't be able to cope with a full time job. Poor love would be utterly exhausted.

I don't think the poster was actually calling Fergie the Duchess of Pork, just pointing out that that was her tabloid nickname because she wasn't very thin.

Duchess of Pork. What a revolting thing to say.

I'm no royalist btw.

I always assumed she was naturally thin and didn't have to starve herself, but maybe I'm wrong.

Personally, I think she's doing quite well considering she only had a baby fairly recently.

It's such an easy life Princess Diana cracked up and Sarah Ferguson legged it after a few years.

Try knowing exactly what you will be doing for the next 6 years on every day of the year. Their life is mapped out, organised, and precision managed at every turn.

Not for me thank you.

Yeah, but if you have a personal trainer, tennis or yoga instructor rocking up at your house at 7am it's going to make it a hell of a lot easier to motivate yourself. It's like buying discipline.

I work full time, keep a six bedroom house spotless, do tons of charity work and always look amazing.

No, seriously, I do Smile.

" If you have enough money and time (and decent advice) anyone can look good."

People say this all the time about folk with money etc - it's not true. it still takes discipline and effort.

I always say that either the house looks good or I do! I can't keep my home and myself immaculate, its too much!

You're either the type that likes to look good all the time and be well groomed, watch your weight, excercise etc or your not - it's usually not that much to do with time or money as proven by my generally slobbish appearance.

Report
lilacblossomtime · 21/07/2015 16:18

I don't think she looks that amazing. She is quite pretty and has nice hair and is quite slim but she isn't that much better looking than a few mums I see at the school gates.
If I had all those staff I would still be plump and a bit scruffy. If people said I was The Duchess of Pork I would say no I am the Duchess of I don't give a stuff. I would then return to my country house and walk my Labradors before having a fabulous meal prepared by my personal chef.

Why start another thread? This was done to death the other day.

Looking as good as DoC does is at least a part time job anyway. I could have a pool or gym at home, but having to work an eight hour day, plus commute, plus cooking, cleaning etc, plus "having a life", doesn't leave a whole pile of time to actually use it much, and certainly not to the extent that she clearly does. And that's before you consider the appointments for hair extensions cuts, semi-permanent make-up, meetings with stylists etc.

If you have enough money and time (and decent advice) anyone can look good.

Another thread which proves that there is nothing interesting to say about Kate Middleton.

Looking decent is not a full time job! Confused

There are plenty of women with full time jobs who look just as good who don't have

  • cleaners,
  • nannies,
  • personal chefs,
  • trainers and
  • hairdressers, who all live-in or come to their house everyday;
  • and a pool and gym at home.

and pretty much unlimited funds for the above forever.

Why does you either have to look like her or look like shit? Confused
Most people I know including myself, are capable of doing all sorts of admin, household chores, see to a family and still look presentable and groomed.
