another e cig fan here - min 20 a day for 30 years, never was able to quit. I've not smoked since last June. Currently slowly cutting down on the vaps.

I smoke at my desk!
Mind you I did ask first, gave everyone a link to what it was all about and said if they wanted me to still take 'smoke' breaks no problem.

My manager for some reason seemed totally happy for me not to wander off outside every so often and he, and the rest of the team, gave it the thumbs up.

I have even had a sneaky puff in the loo on a plane that banned them (as it would 'confuse' the other passengers)

I've been using a personal vaporiser (not a look a like e-cig) for 6 weeks now, and am off the cigs at last after 40 years. It is MUCH cheaper than smoking (and even cheaper if you mix your own juices, which I'm about to start experimenting with). You can buy/mix any strength of liquid from 0 nicotine to 36mg or more - I'm now on 12mg as opposed to the 20 mg I started on. There is a HUGE range of flavours, eveything from vanilla custard, through fruity caramel to tobacco flavours and coffee.

Travelling through Gatwick airport a couple of weeks ago, I found a 'vaping welcome' sign at the Prunier seafood place (south terminal, upper level of departure lounge) - they also sell e-cigs. Spent a happy hour sitting there vaping and enjoying some prawns :)

There are indeed discussions going on in Brussels about introducing controls to the sale of e-cigs - the current proposal being that they become classified as medicinal products (apart from devices which limit nicotine content to less than 4mg, a level which will not be sufficient for most smokers who are wanting to make the switch). This would mean that every producer would have to go to the expense of getting each individual product registered - which can cost many thousands and would be unworkable for the majority of vendors.

Effectively, this would mean that there were far more restrictions on these devices, with which many, many smokers have managed to quit cigarettes, than there are on cigarettes themselves, which is somewhat illogical. Some people believe that lobbyists from the pharmaceutical and tobacco industries are trying to ensure that they remain in control of the nicotine market.

Many of us are writing to our MPs, TDs (in Ireland) and MEPs in order to a) inform them about the facts regarding e-cigs - there is a lot of misinformation out there and a lack of understanding and b) encourage them to vote against any regulation which would mean that people no longer have access to this method of quitting smoking, which seems to be FAR more effective than any nicotine replacement therapy that is currently on offer.

I'm a bit evangelical about all this, because I never thought I'd be off the 'stinkies' - I have tried again and again to quit, managed 3 months (of hell) once, but always came back to smoking. The day I got my personal vapouriser was the day I had my last cigarette - and it has been FUN quitting this way, not in the slightest bit difficult. Since I made the switch, my husband has joined me, and now a friend has done the same - both were VERY enthusiastic smokers, as I was, and both have quit without a problem.

For those who say 'yes but you're still addicted to nicotine' - yes, I am, but nicotine is not what harms you, it's as bad for you as caffeine, probably - it's the tar, the carbon monoxide and all that good stuff in cigarettes that do the harm. Plus the 2nd had smoke issue, of course. My intention is to slowly reduce the level of nicotine in my juices, until I get to 0 - maybe in 6 months to a year. IN the meantime, I'm enjoying vaping in my local pub, who are fine with it, enjoying making new friends at vaping meets (there's quite a community!) and enjoying exploring all the different flavours of juices.

Gosh, I just wrote an essay :)

Do it. You are not actually harming anybody. Nobody will know anyway.

My friend has one, he hasn't smoked a "real" cigarette for a year and a half now thanks to the e-ciggy. He loves it. He often has a sneaky puff wherever he is (he doesn't work, but he's a stay at home Dad so he doesn't want the children to see) so he sort of has it half up his sleeve. I always do a double take when I see steam coming out his mouth though. Lol.

Dh has one.

They aren't really quitting though are they, as they still contain nicotine? He uses it for a few weeks then smokes then switches back to it. I don't like it anymore than his smoking.

It does smell faintly, but then I'm pregnant and can smell everything!

I'm intrigued by e-cigs. I'm sitting here having a real one pondering what I would have to do to quit.

Sorry to hijack; I am leaning more and more towards quitting and wondered if these are any good. How are people finding them? Do they just replace the hand-to-mouth action of smoking or do they contain nicotine? (I know I could google but personal opinions are better!)

I work for an airline, the reason we don't allow it is because if you sat there puffing away then some numpty a few rows back will probably think its real and spark one up themselves. Then we're all flying in a fuel laden timebomb. Which is fun.

I had a message from a FB E-cig page this morning to say that the EU are trying to get E-cigs classed as a medicine which means they will no longer be sold how they currently are as would have to undergo major trials etc.

Anybody else heard about this?

MPs apparently in discussion about it.

Quoteunquote - I've tried both "E-Lites" and "10 motives" and I have to say I much prefer "10 motives" and the refills are cheaper too!! I get mine from Sainsbury's but I think you can get them in WHSmiths too.

The initial outlay is a little bit pricey because you have to buy a rechargable ciggy and charger for £10 but after that it's cheap as chips!!!! Grin

I use my tornado tank everywhere. I love going to a restaurant and watching all the smokers go out in the cold while I puff of mine indoors Grin

They are banned in my workplace (local authority) for exhibiting smoking type behaviour!
What a load of bollocks, which gives a hypocrisy to the anti smoking lobby!
I am considerate for others right to clean air, but not for this blatant discrimination.

I want to buy some for someone I work with, he keeps meaning to get some but just hasen't got round to it, he did ask me to look online and let him know how much,

So what do recommend buying and where from?

then I can do it today.

Forgot to say: Each refill filter easily lasts a day. So that's like £1 per day, £7 per week, max. A slight improvement on £49 per week - and 'guilt-free', too!!! "10 Motives" all the way!

I think e-fags are fantastic! I gave up real fags 9 weeks ago when I bought my "10 motives" rechargeable cigarette and refills. Haven't smoked a real cigarette since. Feel sooo much healthier - and am saving a fortune, too! A pack of 5 refill filters (the equivalent of 125 cigs) only costs £6 - hardly expensive considering a pack of 20 real fags can cost between £6 to £8 nowadays. Please, PLEASE, do try them. They really are brilliant!!!

I use my Sky cig in public whenever I want. Have not tested it on a plane - yet.

If you really want to freak people just take a puff & then stuff it down your cleavage. Grin

I try not to smoke my vapouriser anywhere that I wouldn't normally smoke a cigarette and I'm trying to cut down anyway, even though I'm not actually smoking, so I personally wouldn't even though I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Well done on giving up smoking. Can't wait for my e-lite to come.

As long as you are not sneaking off every 5 minutes to puff on the e-cig I don't see the problem.

Wishing you all the luck in continuing to quit. Flowers

I quit with patches. Never tried the e-cig's. How are you finding the whole quitting process?

How funny that they are banned! I suppose you might remind others to go for a real one? I think it should be encouraged. You'd think bosses would want to stop people leaving the office and encourage them to give up!
