The problem is (as Saragh might say) Who has the power when it comes to school admissions? I suspect in reality it is school Heads and governors etc.

And if so, do we think Toby Young will, for example, follow this government
idea. It sounds marginally Liberal or Left Wing...Toby Young is arguably to the right of Cameron....

I understand that the people working on Toby Young's school appeals are still at work now



However, I do know that Hammersmith council are ensuring that it will be conducted as fairly as possible and according to strict guidelines.

Not being funny Toby youngs school is based on a lotto system so any one can apply its not the issue these schools won't take poor children their parents don't apply


I applied for Tonys school I was to far away we knew that when applying and we are a low income

it's not the governments fault that only motivated parents apply to these schools who do you legislate for lazy parents



We already seen on here people when parents starts choosing a school based on were the friends are going then you have already lost the battle

Coming from a slightly different angle, my son is not disadvantaged in anyway other than that his father is in the forces, and we are about to move for service reasons....and can we get him into a school? Can we hell! It is like being stuck in a Kafka-esque nightmare. All form filling -in, and then re-doing the same form when the original schools we asked for are full up, with different schools...and no guarantee that by the time the council processes the form they won't have been taken up by others.

I am not sure what these new proposals involve. I thought that a child with a parent of above average?? income would be put at the bottom of the list...but that sounds so daft that I cannot believe I have heard it right.

Either way, I am on the point of writing to Michael Gove and giving him a piece of my mind re the current set up.

I think its absurd, not that Im in agreement with the free schools idea but surely does that not take away the whole point of creating free schools in the first place, to provide more choice and full inclusion for everyone and not more selection for either end of the spectrum.

It is difficult to define "the disadvantaged" surely. I am a single parent, student and am on the bones of my arse however I dont think technicaly I would be classed as the disadvantaged as I do not live in the thick of a deprived area and my dd does not attend school in a deprived area. The school that is classed as in a deprived area receives alot of funding for the children to join many local clubs for free, whilst this is a good thing for those children and no way do I begrudge what others get just because we do not, but my dd does not have this opportunity.

where children and state education is considered I think total inclusion is the way forward.

Have any definite proposals yet been announced. The only coverage I've seen so far is still in terms of "ministers will announce today", so it's difficult to know if the pre-coverage is accurate or, possibly more importantly, what's in the detail.
