to want some feedback from job interviews

4 interviews!!!
These people can't be bothered to give feedback.
So annoyed.
I think some of the fault is with the recruitment people, but if you interview someone, should you not let them know why they haven't got the job

Emsyj - I know absolutly nothing about tyhe legal profession but it sounds like they have their recruitment down to a T.

Totally accept that may be true in the sectors you deal with, MrSpoc, but it is different in the legal profession. I have never waited more than 24 hours to be invited for second interview either. It must vary.

Thanks MrSpoc-that's a very kind offer indeed. It needs a revamp which I intend to do over the weekend (the four jobs I applied for were application only) but I may well take you up on that-much appreciated.

emsyj - I admit that offers tend to come fairly quickly but can still take a couple of weeks. If it is a first stage interview then you can expect to wait 2 - 3 weeks for initial feedback.

Runninupthatbill - If it helps I recruit for the Manufacturing & Engineering Industries. The areas we cover are:Production | Engineering | Development | Hygiene - Technical - Research & Design - Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental - Supply Chain & Purchasing.
If your skills fall inline with any of the above feel free to send me your C.V and I will see what I can do for you.

In my personal experience, you hear very quickly if you are going to be offered the job. I have never waited more than 24 hours to be offered a job. However, I did go for TWO interviews at quite a big firm in London back in 2008 and I am still waiting to hear.... Do ya reckon I've got it???? Grin

YANBU to want feedback, but sadly it's not realistic to expect to get it every time. I suspect length of time for decisions/offers must vary from one industry/profession to another - I have never heard of anyone in my profession waiting several weeks for an offer.

Thanks MrSpec. Methinks I'm going to be unlucky with the one I want but will try and glean some feedback.

Expecting feedback within a week is wishful thinking.

Runninupthatbill - if you had some at the begginging of the month and still waiting you may find that they are still interviewing or waiting on a strong canddiate for when they are free.

You also have to take into account senior positions will often involve 2 or 3 may be more managers / directors and finding the time when everyone will be free can be hard.

2 - 3 weeks is normal to wait but I have had clients come back to me a few months later.

'2 of mine are from before Easter, they did say that they had lots of holidays coming up, but even so?!'

I know..I've had no rejection but I asked my manager if any references had been taken up (I'm being made redundant (or rather 'voluntary') so no awkwardness about that) but nothing so far..even the one where they said I'd passed the interview stage.

I always try to give feedback, if asked, though it's not always easy to give genuinely helpful feedback unless someone was crap (and then they won't like it...). It can often be the case that an applicant did nothing wrong, it's just that the successful person was somehow "more right" than they were.

If you think getting no feedback is bad, you should try acting. You go for an audition: you only know you haven't got it when the shoot date is past or rehearsals have started. You usually don't get a rejection phone call, email or letter. As a general rule, only the successful applicants hear anything at all, actors don't even get a "thanks, but no thanks". If you do get the job, it might only last a day or two anyway, so then you have to do it all over again!

I would usually say before the end of the week, but I guess it depends where you are in the order of interviews and how many people they are interviewing.

Btw, what would you say is a reasonable amount of time before getting a yes/no answer after a job interview? I've had two job interviews: one 28th April and one May 3rd and they are still deliberating..

Report
LiliesandVeuve · 24/05/2011 12:59

I have had 6 interviews, awaiting some kind of acknowledgement for 4 of them.

On the job search, again I had about half a dozen that I never heard a yes or no from
It seems that if it is no, the recruitment people just ignore or avoid you.

MrSpoc, I hope your recruitment consultants are considerate!

I understand exactly how you feel. I've recently applied for four jobs-got two interviews. One of the jobs I wasn't shortlisted for emailed and said I could ask for feedback. I did and it was not forthcoming (I tried twice more...nothing!).

That would make sense MrSpoc.

MrSpoc · 24/05/2011 12:15

FabbyChic - the Op has not even got a yes/no yet even after speaking with them, so to me i suspect that they are still waiting on a decision.

Its really rude not to tell you why you did not get a job, you are entitled to ask for feedback too, and I do but never get it!

Lilies - I run my own recruitment agency. If you have rang them for feedback and they haven't given you any, then may be they have not had any either.

It is very frustrating but if you have not had a yes/no then things are still looking good. Normally if your not right you find out fairly swiftly.

What i tell my canddiates is to call my by the end ofr the week and in the mean time we will keep chasing for feedback.

Good luck.

LiliesandVeuve · 24/05/2011 11:48

well, I have chased the recruitment people by phone and email, and nothing back.
They are your best friend when they think you are suitable for a role, and they don't want to know.
worraliberty, I haven't even been told yes or no, never mind feedback!

It totally depends on how many people went for the job. You can't expect them to individually tell everyone where they went wrong/why they weren't sucessful. Most people tend to ask for feedback nowdays if they want it.

Report
sunnydelight · 24/05/2011 11:40

Very common nowadays unfortunately. I would e-mail and ask for feedback, if there is no response follow that up with a polite phone call.
