Am struggling to find anything that isn't "ultra thin and useless"?

BertiBotts sadly, me and 30 parted company some time ago! I will check the box in Boots. Smile

This was always a problem but much more intense since dd. Never heard about ibuprofen - will definitely try that.

Persist with them if you don't find it easy to start with. I got on fine immediately, but I've seen a few ladies have to get used to it over a little while :) good luck!

Another vote for mooncup. If you don't want to go down the mooncup route, I reckon Lil-lets tampons are better than Tampax if you've got a heavy period. They seem more absorbant and less leaky.

day 2 and 3 simply awful One hour max before changing. lillets super plus extra plus always ultra long with wings. even with tranexamic acid. Hideous bloody things periods. Up all night feeling exhausted contantly changing otherwise is floodsville.

I did use a mooncup for about 3 years but it now overfloweth on a regular basis and if very full it can 'flick' on the way out. Great. Not.

unfortunately i can't bear tampons or mooncups so i have to use towels - always ultra night are the best i've used and i have tried loads of brands!

it's dreadful on days 2 & 3 extra larga tampon, two night time towels and two pairs of knickers. I think I will have to investigate moon cups.

I must have read it wrong when I bought mine. I wasn't too far off 30 I guess.

Sounds about right spaghetti! I actually know someone who has used the frying pan on her husband. Smacked him in the face and knocked him out. She had no idea why just that she gets angry around her period. Last I heard that was the worst she'd done.

for light periods I use an aluminium frying pan, for heavy ones I sometimes resort to a rolling pin...

Confuddled/claret, it is based on childbirth, not pregnancy. If you're under 30 and you've had c-sections the box says you need the smaller size (B). However there's not that much difference so I wouldn't worry too much.

Mooncup, I have endermetrios (sp) moon cups have changed my periods and I wished I'd known about them far sooner, I've been using one for four years and it's fab,I get a lot less painful cramps too. the only problem I've had is if you want to empty it in public loos there's not often a sink in the toilets, I just carry a travel pack of wipes.
I found tampons used to leech all the moisture out of me and left me sore and dry.

Solo 60ml in a week is considered heavy! I can easily do that in a day and as I say for 12 weeks it was 100ml a day (add exlcusive breastfeeding into that and I was a wreck!) fortunately it just stopped on it's own.

Thanks Solo, I'm going to hotfoot it to Boots this week and get one. It's reassuring to know that so many women are using them - and loving them!

LyingWitch I couldn't keep tampons in after having my Ds in 1998, but the Mooncup is fine and you get to know when it needs emptying; mine seems to lower itself a little and you become aware of it iyswim? Wish I'd discovered them 30 years ago I can tell you!

Thanks confuddled.. I think I'll get one and give it a try. My periods aren't as heavy as some I've read about here and I currently manage with the Always Ultra long towels, but it would be great not to have to use them as much as I do.

Mooncups are actually easier to fit, lying. The material they're made of makes them easier to get in and they don't suck moisture so they're more comfortable to leave in.

They can leak but they hold just over 20ml which is a third of a heavy week's flow so it's unlikely. You can't be sure what's in there so if it's not overflowing you just empty when you want to. You get used to your own cycles far more than you do with towels and tampons and you know how much you lose. Emptying it 2-3 times a day, possibly once in the night if you have a heavy enough flow, is usually enough.

There was a thread once about mooncups and washable pads and someone was saying that tampons and towels suck the moisture from you so you bleed more and heavier, also causes pain. I was a little skeptical but I noticed a difference, maybe in the pain more than anything else as I was losing 100ml a day when I started.

For those who don't use cups, they have little markers down the side to measure the contents. Embarrassing Bodies did an episode where they got women to wear them and see how much they lost.

marrow in a rainstorm... I'm laughing so much at that. Grin

I'm thinking of trying Mooncup too but wonder whether they work for women who can't use tampons. Does anyone else have that problem? Whenever I've inserted them, they feel uncomfortable to the point of painful, and they don't seem to 'stay', whatever size I've used.

Are Mooncups more forgiving and, how do you know when they need to be emptied? If you can't empty them when they're full, do they hold the flow still?
