Advice from those in the know! Mucus poo

My nearly 13m old son has had very mucousy loose and foul smelling poos for almost a month. We have had a stool sample sent for calprotectin & protozoa (as he swims quite regularly) which has come back negative today.

He has had reflux from birth which has been treated with ranitadine (which he nolonger takes) CMPI/A was ruled out by doc as no other symptoms, thriving etc but I think he worsened after we tried him with whole milk. He becomes very irritable, clingy, loose nappy breaching stools that smell awful, sometimes acidic, just not a happy boy.

I'm just wondering if any of you have been through similar or know what the next stage would be in trying to find out whats wrong? Gp's are helpful but its hard to get an appointment with the one who knows my son and sometimes it seems they are just following my lead - but im at a loss!

Any advice would be greatly recieved x

Hey @honey1910 i didn't find cause did poo swab for gp but they said results were compromised due to technical issue? It went away on its own so I never re swabbed although Iguess I still could as have the kit. I put it down to being viral gp said it can happen as they grow? Weird. Will defo investigate further if it returns. Do get a swab if longer then a week and continues to increase in size

@Kaykay29 old thread but did you ever get to root cause? My little boy has exact same. Worried

I'm currently going through the same thing with DS. Did you find out what was the cause?

Almost 2 year old poop.

My son who is almost 23 months old has been constant pooing about 6 times a day for the last 9 days. He's not in pain but his poo is full of mucus and the smell is awful and poo doesn't normally bother me.

I feel so sorry him he's got such a sore bottom from going so much every single day.

Doctors have sent it of to the lab we are currently awaiting results. However, I'm worried, he's normally gone to the toilet once day but never 6 times a day and it's been going on for 9 days now and isn't showing any sign of slowing Down. They aren't solid poos and some are diarrhoea and some are just super soft. A lot of rhe time his nappies are just full of mucus. Has anyone been through this and everything been okay in the end? Hoping it's just a bug that's taking a long time to pass through his system and nothing more serious but I am really worried.

Thanks for all your help with this one

You're symptoms are exactly what our boy was experiencing. Stopped dairy and he has gone from strength to strength. Dairy allergy is hard to test for so dr just said cut it out and if improvements then stick to it.

think GP was thinking more down the lines of eczema, sore bottom. I thought as much. This level of ignorance from a GP is shocking but sadly all too common.

@JiltedJohnsJulie I think GP was thinking more down the lines of eczema, sore bottom etc but also I do think the reflux kind of overshadowed everything else but I took him off the ranitadine myself to prove he was no different without it & that wasnt contributing.

My little one has been the same but is only 8 months old. We had 4 weeks of at least 2-3 orangey mucusy nappies a day! Was first told it could be lactose intolerance but was told later it wasn't and then she was tested for coeliac and awaiting results. In the meantime I have stopped giving her bread, pancakes etc and mucusy nappies have stopped!xx

What symptoms did the Doc think he should have?

Dairy allergy/intolerance? Have you tried non dairy substitute?

Have you tried him with UHT milk, Cravendale or A2 milk instead of whole. My CMPI DD (now 3) has mostly grown out of it but suspect we only got the diagnosis as we had other stuff going on and my supply dropped through stressvmeaning she dropped a couple of centiles at 5 months. Was gaining, meeting milestones but had many explosive poos and colic type symptoms plus some impressive full feed regurgitations!

Milk ladder helped us introduce milk at about 2.

Personally I would be asking for a coeliac screen
