Liver tests - scared!

Hello - name changer here. I've drunk too much (bottle of wine 5 nights a week) for years, although I've reduced that gradually over the last 2 years to a bottle once a week. All well and good I thought. Went to the GP with something unrelated that required blood tests, and the GP did a liver function test too. That's come back 'high' apparently some results are 5 times normal limits. I've now had loads more blood tests and I'm booked in for an ultrasound scan. Not had any results yet - seeing GP again next week for blood test results.

I am totally crapping it - has anyone else had these tests? Of course I've stopped drinking completely now but any reassurance that might let me sleep until I see the (rather abrupt) GP would be very much appreciated.

I met someone recently that drank a bottle of wine a night for 20 years, while at the same time being monitored by doctor every 6 months or so taking bloods to check liver. His liver was fine for those 20 years, but then suddenly, they showed signs of liver getting into trouble. He stopped drinking immediately and hasn't had a drink in 4 years. His liver regenerated itself and is fine now. If you catch it early enough, change lifestyle, your liver can sort itself out.

I've had high LFT results, a scan and a liver biopsy. I have non-alcoholic steatohepatitis: inflammatory fatty liver disease. I lost weight and my LFTs went back to normal. The liver is very resilient! Keep being nice to yours and see what happens.

Not able to give you any advice but I do wish you well, nothing worse than worry for not sleeping.
