Doll recommendations for 6 year old

DD (6) wants a new doll for Christmas. She already has a few, random ones collected over the years including ones that belonged to her big sister, and she is a diligent mother!

Are there are particularly good ones for a slightly older child who loves detail and wants to be hands on? The Luvabella ones freak me out a bit! This will be her main Christmas present so happy to pay a little more than the supermarket prices for the right thing.

Thanks!

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a doll for your child, we’ve recently updated our best dolls page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

DD is 7.5 and loves her Lottie dolls. they are small but detailed and come with bitty bits that will forever get lost

Fossil Lottie (now called charlotte by DD) is a particular favourite.

I always think Our generation dolls look nice - they seem to have a good range of accessories and come in things like school uniform with a backpack, and a horses riding outfit and dog walker, ballet dancer etc. And you can get horses and dogs and all sorts of add ons for them (if you want to go all out ! Grin)

If she want a baby doll, Baby Born and baby Annabel look nice - again plenty of accessories. The little girls who live next door to me have just got Baby Alive dolls which they proudly showed me - but I thought they were hideous - although obviously I admired them hugely to their 'Mummies' Grin

Corolle dolls are lovely if you want a baby type (often at good prices on Amazon). Also Lottie dolls are fab if she would prefer that style. Muddy puddles Lottie has been a firm favourite in our house for years but we also have a range of other Lottie dolls that get a lot of love too!

If it's baby dolls you want look at the maryshortle shop (either online or in person if you are in York). They have a huge range from first play dolls to wildly expensive collectors silicone reborns. They are very knowledgeable too if you call/email. My 6 year old is obsessed with dolls. Her favourite is an Antonio Juan doll from Mary shortle. Would your 6yr old have a preference about hair/bald, soft body/vinyl, girls/boy, asleep/awake, size? Helps narrow the search!

Thanks, everyone. Lots of leads here! By chance we’re in York next weekend so I shall take her on a factfinding trip there to get an idea of what she likes most. But I will get googling.

My gut tells me she’d adore a reborn, but my wallet would find it too painful.

I bought a beautiful baby doll from Spain, the brand was ASI and despite the price shown on this link just over £50 including postage. They have a really wide selection and seem better quality than here dollsanddolls.com/en/asi-doll-46-cm-leo-with-mini-rhombuses-pink-dress-with-pink-jacket/
