Toy storage, argh

Please help! We need good storage for our children’s toys... we’ve got a toy box but everything ends up in a big pile in it, would be great to have something a bit more separated out so we can store the trains/cars/VTEC separately, for example.

What storage solution do you love?

Kallax from ikea with fabric boxes in it. Pull boxes out, shove my toy type, stash boxes away. Done!

Boringnamechanging · 31/05/2020 08:47

Kallax ikea unit. Mix of open squares (for books) cupboards (for bigger toys like farm) and boxes (for bricks and smaller things)

I also have extra boxes that can be used to rotate toys ie when I get fed up of picking the bricks up I take that box away and put on top of my wardrobe and get a box of toot toot track out. Added bonus is that they toys get played with more when they haven't had them for a week.

abigailthespiderinthehat · 31/05/2020 08:49

Kallax here too, got three sets!

20viona · 31/05/2020 08:49

Ikea Kallax it's a must.

GrimmsFairytales · 31/05/2020 08:50

What storage solution do you love?

This makes it seem like there are other options Grin We all know Kallax is the only storage solution. Grin

BuffaloCauliflower · 31/05/2020 08:50

Kallax. I think they should actually be listed as required furniture when you have children, casting my mind around all my friends with kids and I don’t think a single household doesn’t have at least one.

SuperPixie247 · 31/05/2020 08:53

Kallax

Doggodogington · 31/05/2020 08:55

KallaX is the only way. We have spoken. Go forth and Ikea.

MayFayner · 31/05/2020 09:00

This makes it seem like there are other options grin

Well there is also the night Trofast.

We have Kallax for toys and then trofast for art stuff aand small Lego etc.

MayFayner · 31/05/2020 09:00

The mighty Trofast, that was meant to say.

Cupcakegirl13 · 31/05/2020 09:02

We have mainly kallax with a couple of trofast love them both

Goostacean · 31/05/2020 09:03

Oh no. I despise Ikea. Looks like I’m wrong, though...

What do you despise? They’re great for some things, kids furniture/toy storage being one of them. Kallax are bloody long wearing as well, they last.

Puddlelane123 · 31/05/2020 09:05

Great Little Trading Company do lots of lovely toy storage if you are willing to fork out more than Ikea prices. Really versatile and good quality.

GrimmsFairytales · 31/05/2020 09:06

@Goostacean

Oh no. I despise Ikea. Looks like I’m wrong, though...

How can you despise Ikea? Shock

As for those who mentioned Trofast, my apologies, you're correct, although I prefer Kallax because... pretty boxes. Grin
BuffaloCauliflower · 31/05/2020 09:07

Trofast is also great but Kallax is more versatile

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 31/05/2020 09:09

Jumping on the Kallax bandwagon. They’re amazing, we have one in almost every room and I’m very much not a flat pack fan. But they’re just so good for what we need

ScarfLadysBag · 31/05/2020 09:09

We have storage units from the GLTC. These ones stacked. They store so much! But they aren't cheaper, although there is a sale on! We fell in love with them at a holiday cottage and came straight home and ordered them.

ScarfLadysBag · 31/05/2020 09:11

And yes they are great quality, immensely sturdy. We will probably add more as DD's toys collection grows! At the moment we have a mix of double and triple ones stacked.

Ricekrispie22 · 31/05/2020 09:12

We’ve got a few 35l see-through rolling under-bed storage boxes.
We’ve got a couple of these www.homebase.co.uk/mobile-tower-unit-with-3-large-drawers-volcanic-ash-with-clear-drawers_p713594 and a similar one with larger draws www.homebase.co.uk/mobile-tower-unity-with-3-jumbo-drawers-volcanic-ash-with-clear-drawers_p725159

DS has one of these in his room www.argos.co.uk/product/6007320

ScarfLadysBag · 31/05/2020 09:13

That link doesn't seem to work but just search for the stacking storage trunk on the site.

Toy storage, argh
m0therofdragons · 31/05/2020 09:13

Ikea is our saviour! 12 cube Kallax is arriving this morning Grin nothing comes close I’m afraid!

3LittleMonkeyz · 31/05/2020 09:13

Kallax here too!

m0therofdragons · 31/05/2020 09:16

GLTC is just Ikea style for 4x the price Blush

AIMD · 31/05/2020 09:16

I gotta agree with Kallax! Can keep bitty toys like cars etc in them, makes it easy to limit toys (eg only one box full of cars), and space on top to display/put larger toys. If you get a low one children can get/replace toys easily themselves too.

Alternative, depending on what you are looking for, could be open shelving if you are going for a minimal toy situation or multiple woven baskets with different types of toys in each or a wardrobe with plastic storage boxes in if you want to be able to close doors and have nothing in sight.

I think this is where Pinterest is handy....
