I like Hotel Chocolate. I'm splashing out this year on their velvertiser.

When i used to see it about, i always got Charbonell and Walker.

I think the difference us the use if chocolate flakes, which you could add to any hot chocolate.

Just lidl dark choc maybe 70% although I prefer darker for scoffing- heat it together with milk in the microwave and give it a good whisk. Delicious! Recipes for Italian or Spanish thick hot chocolate are amazing too

The Twinings powder is actually really lovely, made with all milk (steamed is best, makes it really smooth and creamy).

Fortnum & Mason do several varieties. I get the milk chocolate one, which is lovely.

I put a tot of whiskey in mine - any hot chocolate tastes heavenly that way.

I use choc shot. It's a liquid chocolate which melts well into milk.

Teen Dd has the Hotel Chocolat velvetiser and loves their salted caramel hit chocolate served with marshmallows. She makes them for her friends whenever they come round and they all love them!

Just had to.update with my new revelation! I had a go at making oat milk today for my friend who tries to avoid dairy. Really simple, I just blended 3 cups of water (it was an American recipe) with one date (optional but I had some knocking about) then half a cup of oats and strained it.

Well, i heated a cupful with plenty of dark chocolate, gave it a whisk and it made the thickest, creamiest hot chocolate I have ever tasted!! If you have any porridge oats in it is well worth a go!

The velvetiser does look awesome though. Can you use any chocolate or do.you have to buy the flakes?

Use an actual bar of chocolate, whichever is your favourite, and break up pieces into a saucepan with a cupful of milk and stir over a low heat.

Melt a bar of chocolate into milk in a saucepan. Optionally, add a shot of Bailey's.

I'm with @stucknoue you can't really beat proper cocoa and milk mixed with your own personal sugar preference.

Whttards cocoa powder is really nice if you like dark chocolate.
Mix a few teaspoons of powder with a bit of cold milk and add it to a pan of warmed milk . I don't add sugar but some may prefer to add some.

I like the Twinings Swiss Milk Chocolate powder with hot milk for 'instant' hot chocolate.
But decent chocolate melted into hot milk is lovely.
And I would Love a velvetiser!

Once you've made your hot chocolate, add some Peppermint Smirnoff to it ... heaven :)

No, no, no... It has to be triple sec. It's like drinking a chocolate orange!

Either that or I make "Mexican hot chocolate" by stirring chocolate chips into milk on the hob & adding ginger because I don't like cinnamon. I've yet to try adding triple sec to Mexican hot choc... Might have to try that tonight once the DC are in bed!

I also have a recipe involving cocoa, choc chips, sugar, milk powder, coffee powder & mini marshmallows. You're supposed to add water but I make it with milk & add squirty cream to the top.

I really like hot chocolate! Grin

Randomly added a shot of cherry brandy once (it'd been there so long I have no idea why I bought it) and bingo! Drinkable black forest gateau 😋

My favourite is the Asda Special Hot chocolate. It's not too dark and not too sweet. Rest of the family likes Suchard Express but I find that too sweet.
Jersey milk makes it even better.
Funnily I've come off the cooked cocoa thing years ago.
