DP & I have just been reminiscing about 1/2p sweets & sweets in the 70s in general.
Favourites were :
Black Jacks
Rosy apples
Fruit Salads

Bars of highland toffee that you had to break into pieces

I used to love Highland Toffee. Sixpence it was, in my mind.

I too was going to say '2 for a penny Black Jacks and Fruit Salads' too

Maybe we didn't have so much choice back then Grin

I also used to like all the liquorish things - pipes, wands, Catherine Wheels etc.

Going into the "paper shop" and asking for 20p of cherry lips.

Herefortheduration · 06/02/2019 23:20

Cola cubes, vest sweet ever!

thisismadness77 · 06/02/2019 23:21

Sherbet pips

DanceBreak · 06/02/2019 23:23

Yep, cherry lips for sure!

Closely followed by cinnamon lozenges. Sucking on a cinnamon lozenge made endless church on a Sunday bearable.

Pineapple rock
Fruit gums when they were hard and proper strong flavours (not like the bland soft ones today)
Tabs
Acid drops
Chocolate limes
Pineapple cubes
Candy cigarettes
Aniseed balls

AnotherDrearyDayInParadise · 06/02/2019 23:25

I could never do pear drops because they shredded my palate.
I nearly choked on a Spangle so that’s off my list

OP posts:
Discombobulated9 · 06/02/2019 23:25

Pineapple chunks
Spangled
Coconut ice

FlumpyMummy · 06/02/2019 23:26

Discombobulated9 · 06/02/2019 23:27

DanceBreak · 06/02/2019 23:27

Brandy balls
Butter balls.

NumbersLetters · 06/02/2019 23:32

Callard and Bowser butterscotch in its paper and cellophane packaging. For posh.

MashedSpud · 06/02/2019 23:35

They had these flat round oranges for 2p, same texture as white mice but yummy orange.
Mojos
Germaline bubble gum with tattoos in the pack with yellow faces on and I would use them on my tongue
And not sweets but Wheelz Nibbits onion and vinegar flavour or Mexican spice wheel shaped maize snacks.

jitterbugintomybrain · 06/02/2019 23:39

Rainbow drops
Chewing nuts
American cream soda
Cola cubes

Anyone remember bones crisps? Loved them!

AnotherDrearyDayInParadise · 06/02/2019 23:40

Yes - i’d Forgotten about the gum with tattoos.
Did anyone shrink crisp packets in the oven & make them into key rings (or just shrink them because everyone else was)

OP posts:
Dandelio · 06/02/2019 23:41

Pinkkahori · 06/02/2019 23:44

I loved Ice Cups chocolate in the '80s. I often reminisced about them so was delighted to find them in my local Lidl recently.
I bought them to show my kids but ended up eating them all myself.
They still feel cold on the tongue.

Dandelio · 06/02/2019 23:44

Gold rush

Also, from the penny sweet counter:

Flying Saucers
Pint Pots - like cola bottles but in the shape of pints of beer and tasted like shandy ShockGrin
Cola bottles
Strawberry laces
Mint Mojos
Refreshers
Swizzles
Ice Cups, which were like little chocolates in a tiny foil cupcake case that were always inexplicably cold in the centre. Confused

DanceBreak · 06/02/2019 23:47

Strips of Chelsea whoppers.

MawkishTwaddle · 06/02/2019 23:48
