Someone keeps stealing my mug!

A petty little grievance here, but I have an oversized coffee mug that I keep at work - it’s pretty, and is personalised with my initial. At the end of a day, it goes into the dishwasher with all the other mugs and the cleaner puts them back in the cupboard for the next morning.

However – my mug keeps going missing!

I work for a company that provide oodles of branded promotional mugs, of which there’s loads available to staff – I do feel that the size of my super-mug is the reason it goes walkies.

Can’t work out who it is – I’ve never caught them I the act, and it could be a case that whoever it is, doesn’t know it’s specifically mine, as our offices are all quite separate. However, it’s blatantly someone’s personal mug!

But how do I stop them doing it?

Thought about a pass-agg message in the bottom, written in Sharpie, but it wouldn’t last long.

As I said, it’s not important in the grand scheme of things, but it’s just so bloody rude!

Help me get them told, MNers!Grin

Source some sport direct buckets to lure them out.

Wash the mug yourself and keep in a drawerSmile

Wash your own mug at the end of the day. Keep it in your desk/ locker/ personal space. Sorted.

Should have specified - I need ideas for a lazy person who doesn't like to do her own washing up 😂😂😂

Yes wash it and keep it separate. The person who steals it is bound to say “oh wheres the nice mug?” Then you can have a Nessa/Doris moment and say “there it is” and stick 2 fingers at that thief!

I’d go with the sharpie option. Just write twat face on the bottom.

Write “I stole this mug” on the bottom of it. People can see it when they’re drinking from it.

Can you raise a search party for it? Cause mayhem in every department until it's found?

Or even ' I stole ScottyTeapot's mug'.

Finding a mug after a cuppa is hardly "washing up"!

You've been given a solution OP.

Rinsing. Not finding.

If you can't be bothered to rinse at the end of the day keep it in your desk / in a drawer overnight then rinse in the morning when you wait for the kettle to boil. (Maybe don't do that on Friday though!)

Write a note saying 'Gotcha you Mug thief, stop using my mug and get your own.' Fold note in half and put it in your mug then wrap your mug up with cellophane and put it in cupboard.
Or save yourself the hassle and take it to and from work so it does'nt go on a drinkabout. Y'know you would do well to wash your own mug Scotty Teapot because that way you know its not being 'washed' with a manky old dishcloth that should have been thrown out last century.

I used to work in a place like this, I stopped washing my mug up until I wanted to use it. No one else wanted it after that!

It's not a petty grievance it's a major disaster. I have mugs for different occasions in work, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas and a special size one for hot ribena and my day to day mug. No one, and I mean no one would ever use one of my mugs because I would just simply kill them Grin.

Send an email round saying you have impetigo and can people not use your mug as it’s highly infectious 😂

Don't be that person who makes a huge fuss over a mug at work over the work email. Keep your special mug at home.

Let it be known that you keep a huge mug at work to pee into (as you can’t hit the tiny bottles the doctor provides) and feel terrible that someone is obviously using it for their morning brew

If a personal mug was in the work dishwasher I'd assume it was one someone had left behind that was for general use.

If you don't want others to use it, wash it yourself and keep it on your desk. I leave my mug dirty on my desk and wash it just before I re-fill it.

halfwitpicker · 24/01/2019 12:55

So they nick it out of the dishwasher in a morning?

Interesting.

I'm fairly relaxed about mugs, but other colleagues care more, which I respect.....one of them was holding forth about how inappropriate/unhygienic it was to use other people's mugs, while drinking from my personalised one. (I have an unusual first name, and one of my pupils had discovered it, and had it inscribed as a Christmas present) She had the grace to blush when she decoded my quizzical raised eyebrow. But anybody who has ever used a school staffroom will tell you how complex mug politics can be!
I think expressing concern about anybody using your mug until the unpleasant, unspecified minor infection has cleared up, broadcast generally, might cause some foot-shuffling.
