....the true reason you can never find the end of the rainbow is because they’re a CIRCLE!

Well, who knew?! Not me obviously.

letsdolunch321 · 13/12/2018 21:43

Nor me (52)

SandunesAndRainclouds · 13/12/2018 21:45

Not just me then.

I shared my revelation with DH and he knew! So does my 6yo too according to him Hmm

My partner didn't know this either when I told him the other day and he is 47

PlayingForKittens · 13/12/2018 21:46

It's absolutely stunning when tout see them. We go down a steep hill into the valley on our way to swimming lessons and when there is a rainbow at the top I've sometimes stopped the car for us to look as the curve continues round into the valley.

Youmatter · 13/12/2018 21:51

I was on a train going through the countryside and I swear I seen and took a picture of the beginning and end of a rainbow and now I feel crazy

LostMyLidlFudge · 13/12/2018 21:53

No no no, it's because the leprechauns are at the end of them Shock

SandunesAndRainclouds · 13/12/2018 21:55

I’d love to see a complete rainbow, I want to come to swimming lessons with you Playing

So where does the pot of gold go? Hmm

Youmatter · 13/12/2018 22:15

Does it make it any easier that I actually live in Ireland?

I have the pictures ready to upload I just don’t know how

SandunesAndRainclouds · 13/12/2018 22:16

Lekky I reckon the leprechauns take it.

I learned this in my first year at secondary school. We covered it in physics when we learned about the nature of light.

Youmatter · 13/12/2018 22:20

It’s a known rule the leprechaun can only take the pot if it’s got the four leaf clover that is specifically designed for that pot of gold.

camperjam · 13/12/2018 22:21

I just had to Google this because I didn't believe it.
I had no idea!

LottaHogs · 13/12/2018 22:21

But...but...but...I could see the end of a rainbow in the field in front of me recently.

Yea me too lottahogs

TELL ME HOW YOU DID THIS

I wana show mine too

Ohyesiam · 13/12/2018 22:25

I saw a massive full circle rainbow in the spray at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, it was soooooo beautiful.

poppiesallykatie · 13/12/2018 22:26

I am now confused. How are they a circle? Aren't they always a semicircle? Can't a semicircle exist on it's own, in Maths? (I was crap at geometry but maybe that is going in too hard) Here is a video of the end of a rainbow. Surprised no-one started ploughing up the road. And yes sadly I did not go looking this video up specifically for this thread, I had watched it before. Idle minds grow webs.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 13/12/2018 22:27

Met office explain how it’s best to see a full circle rainbow. It’s a whole new world out there...

You can see what looks like the “end of a rainbow” sometimes but you can never walk up to it and stand in it because it isn’t a true object. Not because they are “round”.

The position of a rainbow and your perception of it is dependent upon your viewpoint relative to the sun.

To see a rainbow the sun must be behind you and the rain that the light rays are refracting/reflecting/refracting again/dispersing off will be in front of you.

Rottie454 · 13/12/2018 22:31

poppies I'm as confused as you are. You never see the end cause it hits the floor, it's is a semi circle

I’m gonna go ahead and say I say the end and beginning of a rainbow.

I may be wrong but it was beautiful and I loved the moment

poppiesallykatie · 13/12/2018 22:31

Moisturise you have just ruined leprechauns for us all.

JennyOnAPlate · 13/12/2018 22:32

I didn't know this either until my 8 year old told me Blush
